-As Raifa said, you are sailing a ship way over your skills, if you hover your mouse on top of the "Navigation" skill in your character sheets, it should say what ship class you can sail without penalties and the navigation requirements.
You might need to hire an officer specialised in navigation in a Tavern.
- If I recall correclty, your character "Health"(NOT your life points) might be very low, affecting your stats as well
-Depending on the game difficulty you chose, your stats progression are much slower.
Keep an eye on the "%" next to them, it is supposed to be sort-of grindy, keep in mind that enemies will scale up just like Skyrim, so don't go level'ing only navigation skills, then you'll get absolutely Rekt on the ground battles.
This makes most sense. I dont think that i must have navigation skills as long as my navigator have them.
Otherwise i need no navigator if i need the skills either way on my character. He is the captain and dont need a Jack of all Trades.
But good i found that Thread bevore i buy/sail a to big ship too.
So get a worse ship.
Besides, when you sail a ship above your ability, you get bad stats everywhere, even when trading. Even with a good Purser. Means you will sell conquered ship way beyond their value. Instead of getting 60.000 for a Gallon, you´ll get about 3000.
