This or New Horizons?
I'm trying to scratch that ol' Sea Dogs itch and I'm wondering what the general consensus is. Caribbean Legend or New Horizons/Maelstrom? The reviews for this are making me thing I might want to just buy the Maelstrom version of New Horizons to upgrade from the Sea Dogs 2/PoTC version

Curious what people think myself.

What I am wondering is: Is this game build on the mechanics of PotC from 2003? Saw some movement of the NPC during fighting and I got a bit nostalgic haha. Looks really similar.

The old PoTC was part of this same series. It was originally called Sea Dogs, then they did one PoTC game, then called it Age of Pirates for a couple entries, then made a new one called Sea Dogs again.

I feel like its just another game built on the Storm Engine and if thats the case theres definitely some memories of PoTC/Sea Dogs 2 in there but from what I know this is closer to To Each His Own

It's always tickled me how PoTC had literally nothing to do with the disney movie, Disney just contacted Akella and said "hey can you just like change the name of your game and we'll give you money and you can like use one of our actors for voice acting or something idk"

I always wondered what was up with that.

Disney just wanted a movie tie-in game since those were popular back in the 00s so they found out Akella was making a pirate game and contacted them and gave them a pretty half decent deal. It was basically a payout for adding like the black pearl or something to the game, changing the name, and I'm pretty sure the game used to come with movie tickets. My old XBox copy if I recall correctly came with them and thats how I saw the film.

It is still Storm Engine, just an updated version of it. And yes, it is basically a remaster of TEHO, but with more stuff added.

I'm guessing NH is still probably better for freeplay?

ok, even if one might have a "free" budget for not buying skulls & bones standard, there is still the question if Gentlemen of Fortune: Maelstrom for $12 gives a comparable experience and play time to this one, especially since the sandbox is free, and seems to be just Carebean Legend starting a late mid game save and a bunch of new missions.
wonder if anyone has played both of them...

(despite alternatives such as ultimate admiral, age of sail)

it comes with the following:
Buccaneers of the Caribe (based on Pirates of the Caribbean)
New Horizons (from Pirates Ahoy! community)
Caribe Stories (based on Caribbean Tales)
Caribe Stories Historical Immersion (based on Caribbean Tales)
Lost Ships City (based on City of Abandoned Ships)
Gentlemen of Fortune 1.2
Gentlemen of Fortune 2.0
Gentlemen of Fortune 2.5
Historical ERAS II
