Resin Dogs Question
I accidentally accepted the first of the Resin Dogs quest by bumping into the guy on the street who gives you the first part, but I'm not high enough level to complete it atm. Can I just wait indefinitely to go to the shipbuilder, or does it expire after a time? Playing in exploration mode just to clarify.

It would probably be best to reload just in case.

This would mean repeating a big section, which is why I need a definitive answer.

I think it's beatable even at minimum level (4). Just savescum your way through the battles :rofl_pirate:

otherwise as Storm has already told you, you need to load the previous save.

Also do remember to save often, like say, every 2-5 minutes. I always save before I'm about to do something that could potentially F me up e.g. before enaging in combat, before entering an interior, before taking up a quest etc.
I guess this habit came from playing the game (and others) back when it used to crash a lot :rofl_pirate:

The problem is simply that there is no rolling autosave. Implement this, as many other games do, and this problem goes away forever. I'm surprised this hasn't been done yet. It's such a simple fix.
There is one actually, I believe you need to enable it. It's an autosave that triggers whenever you enter a region. You can also quicksave and I recommend doing that often as well. As GqM said, Resin Dogs is certainly beatable even at low level though I would personally put it off until last. If you don't think you can manage it you will likely need to reload, as I don't believe you can pause the quest even on exploration mode, since the quest spawns a ship on the world map that needs to be intercepted immediately.

No there isn't. Autosave overwrites the same file over and over again. If you screw up and forget to to a manual save, you are hosed. What I want is an autosave that CREATES AN ENTIRELY NEW FILE every time it saves, I can think of at least a dozen epic-style games that have this feature.

Devs, please fix this. It is making me crazy.
Quicksave and autosave both do this what are you talking about?

No. They. Don't. What are you talking about? There is ONE autosave file, and it gets overwritten every time. Quicksave has three rolling saves, but quicksave is not autosave, is it?
Unless this is a very recent change, then I have no idea what you're talking about. I regularly have to delete excess auto and quicksaves and even ended up turning off autosaves because I got so tired of.

If you look at the file types on the load screen, you'll see one file with the word 'AUTOSAVE' on the upper left. This is what I see, anyway. Post a screenshot that shows more than one autosave on your load screen and prove me wrong. I don't see a setting that would fix this. If you are getting more than one autosave I seriously want to know how.

Are you sure you've enabled it? The autosave should trigger whenever you enter a region from the Global Map.

Yes, it does, But It overwrites the previous save. You are mistaken that it makes a new file.
This is clearly not the correct autosave, it's Charles standing in port. That's not when the autosave I'm speaking of triggers.

There is autosave before going to sea and autosave on boarding. Both write to the same save file. I don't know what else I can tell you.
Okay well I have no idea what's going on with your auto or quicksaves as that has not been my experience. I would recommend focusing on saving manually in that case.

To reiterate on your original question, you will either need to attempt Resin Dogs or lose whatever progress to reload to an earlier save and avoid the quest trigger until ready.
