Change colors / Changing flags in port

Is there any way to change colors (flags) while IN PORT? I can change my flags to Spanish to sail into their port, but when leaving, they always switch back to French, and they attack me (with no visible stealth failure message). After mooring, if I look in my logbook, it shows my colors as French again which supports my belief that I'm not just failing a stealth role, but I can't change them back to Spanish prior to leaving. (The "Change Colors" button is there, but appears to be disabled.) What gives?

When you fail a stealth roll it automatically switches your flag back to French, and you can only switch it at sea. It's possible that you failed a new roll as you got back on your ship.

I think maybe what happened is that my colors got switched to French somehow BEFORE I docked (maybe my stealth failed at the last minute and I didn't see it? I'm not sure) I entered the port again, under Spanish colors, and now when I go to my Fleet tab, I see Spanish colors still. I also get a % chance of deception when trying to walk by the dock guards, rather than just getting attacked immediately. When I leave port, I still have Spanish colors raised. So I think the problem must have happened BEFORE I moored in the Spanish port, not after.

Well, that is possible, but if that happened you would have been attacked as soon as you spoke to a guard.
