Tutorial sparring

I keep getting owned by the training guy in the very first tutorial spar of the game. I keep reloading and trying again, but I just kind of want to move on. Do you miss anything by not beating him in the fencing practice? Do you get any rewards from beating him?

There aren't any rewards for beating Gregoire in the tutorial.
With that being said, just fight with him. Even if you lose, you gain some weapon skill xp.

However, if you're playing on at least Hard difficulty, there is an option to kill Gregoire after owning him in combat on the first try, but I doubt you would want to do that lol.

The easy way:
buy lead balls and gunpowder, kite him with pistol

The hard way:
the weapon which the governor compensate you is trash unless you are duelist.
you can reroll a good starting weapon by restarting game and keep it in a chest under fort, then pick it up after you see the governor, this weapon will beat the guy in a few hits.

However,, you choose to fight him again after you beat him, the fight is gonna be very hard.

Why would you wanna waste money on a pistol and ammo for a tutorial fight? I would understand if you're using them to kill Greg right after the tutorial fight, but there's absolutely no need for a firearm to ONLY beat the tutorial version of him.
Plus you'll get a free pistol and some ammo from the banker if you choose to do Spanish Engineer anyway.
