Mutiny - but why?
Hi,

I'm playing in Sandbox mode
I have two ships, one class 3 and another class 4.
I have a full crew of officers and my level is 13
I have a combined nav skill of 70 on my main ship, I have no red minus figures on Pirate stats
My Captain of the level 4 ship has a nav skill of 60
The crew morale level on both ships is heroic
I have plenty of food and rum on both ships
I am not in debt to the crew and pay them on time

I have just had a mutiny, but I cant understand why, all the conditions are fine? I reloaded my save to check the morale level just before the mutiny, it was heroic as I thought. I won the mutiny attempt and checked morale and it was 'Terrible'.

Why am I having a mutiny, any ideas?

Cheers

So, I've been keeping an eye on my authority bar since the start of this discussion only because it's been a while since I've played and wanted to remind myself about what affects it.

Here's a really good one that I kinda forgot... donate generously to your local church! :)

I was approached by an abbot in Basse-Terre asking for donations in set amounts. I chose to give 5k and the resulting affect on the bar was rather impressive!

Next time I'll give 10k! :)

Actually if you get a ship priest you can negate the effect of that, but still generally good advice not to overload your ship until you need a reason to.

Donating to the church sounds like good advice, never tried it myself, but i'm going to give that a go later and see what happens. 'Donating' to the Brothel does up your authority, trouble is only by a very small amount and can get quite costly after a while.

Apart from everything said, the biggest advice I can give on maintaining authority is to NOT keep your crew topped all the way to the max. Only go past the optimal crew numbr when you know there's a fight coming. When the crew number is red - things go bad, Greg in the tutorial said as much. Your people are crammed and sleeping on deck - of course they are going to grumble.

Yep, I normally never go into the red regarding crew numbers myself, but good to know.

My crew is always in the red. Never mattered at all. If you are going out boarding ships you want it totally full and to hell with the minor overcrowding penalty. One musket broadside from a class 2 kills 30 crew even when the enemy ship has 2 sailors left alive so you are better off overfull. Makes a big difference taking on ships that actually have a good number of crew alive too and an even bigger advantage when you have a small ship. I say do it always.

I use the brothel regularly because authority is based on your actions over the previous 6 months so if you spend some time just capturing ships and making cash it goes down pretty quick. You need to keep doing notable stuff to keep it up like quests and such. Capturing ships doesn't seem to matter. It's not cheap at the brothel but I can make a lot more money from ships than the brothel costs me to recover the authority I lose while doing it. A lot more. And it's just so easy.

For loyalty just try to keep all your officers alignments the same whichever way you chose.
I have all good guys and if you release all your captive captains in a town it makes them very happy. My loyalty is maxxed most of the time with them. Ransoming one of them is a huge hit to good guys loyalty. Huge. Makes no sense that they prefer you let villain pirate captains free in a town instead of turning them in to the authorities but that's how it is.

Yep agreed with your Brothel usage, I now do the same to keep the Authority to a reasonable level.

I have captured pirates and turned them over to governors, I didn't realise that you can also set them free in towns - would you mind letting me know how you do that. I'm assuming you need to visit a certain person and there is a chat option?

How do you ransom pirates also. the only options I thought there was, was to either turn them over to governors, throw them overboad, set them free after capture or ask them to join your crew.

Simply visit the hold of your ship, passing by the door in your cabin.
You have to speak to your "prisoner" while your ship is in the vicinity of a city.
