This review makes a compelling case to wait (or ignore forever)

I've wishlisted the game and I'll follow positive improvements with interest.

Month old review, many of its points centered around gameplay have been addressed.
Free roam mode is unlocked from the start now. Free roam removes story gating and railroading. There are no story scenes in free roam mode though.
I don't know how its hard to tell what you can and cannot jump on to. If it's flat, you can jump on it.
Crumbling blocks are now typically marked besides the ones where they are obviously traps (catacombs and swamp, cloister).
Mazes now have indicators for the correct path to reach objectives. roses for the forest maze, background wall for the ice maze. Additionally, the forest maze stops being a maze after you reach the end of it.
Ulvosa is notorious for sparse auto saves but I'm pretty certain any mini boss has an autosave immediately after it.

As for the story, well yeah, some characters do pretty much stop existing after their intro. I don't think this guy knows what a mary sue is though and is just using it as a buzzword.

This is very good news, thank you.

The main points for me were about the exploration being pointless, the lack of saves, the mazes and the crumbling platforms.

I have very little interest in the story and the characters. If I wanted something good, I'd read a book.

Exploring is the opposite of pointless, very rewarding.

I have no idea what that reviewer was smoking. It must have been some really nasty stuff, because it definitely lowered his IQ by several dozen points.

Exploration in Tevi provides you with:

1. Coins that are used to develop core modules that raise your character's abilities, to purchase stat potions, and craft sigils. You can't grind these coins. You can only get them via exploration and finding them in the world.

2. Stat potions that raise your max health, max damage output and max energy points.

3. Crystals for improving your equipment, like the power of your bombs, the speed of your movement boots, and the duration of your hover jetpack.

4. Sigils for improving and customizing your combat abilities and allowing you to do things you otherwise could not do without those sigils, like adding invincibility frames to your slide attack.

How can any of these rewards acquired via exploration be reasonably described as "pointless"?

And I echo:

I can't take a review that uses "u" instead of "you" seriously.

I find the complaints about the (previous) lack of freeroam kind of weird. Yes, the game is more linear than Rabi-Ribi, but there's still plenty to do off the beaten path; I've been playing Infernal BBQ difficulty and I've really needed everything I can get. If you play in freeroam to start you'll just be wandering around mostly aimlessly without the context for anything that's happening, which works in games like Hollow Knight and Dark Souls, but that's because those games are structured for that. Tevi isn't.

My suggestion would be to start in story mode and if you don't like the story, just start skipping the cutscenes. Even just the objective markers will provide you with more context than you'll get in freeroam mode, and you won't get stuck needing one specific upgrade somewhere in the (fairly large) world. The story isn't the greatest and has some flaws that are easy to point out, but I also think people tend to be overly harsh on it.

Oh I LOVE exploring. The rooms are not boring, bloated or repetitive like some other metroidvanias I played recently. They have so many secrets like sigils, gold, permanent stat up key items and shard drops. Lots of variety in every area.

The music is just amazing too.

They constantly release updates and even have connecting rooms visible by on for default and so much customisation like turbo mode, random sigils mode, and free roam allows you to do anything in any order if you choose. I’m excited for boss rush as we have boss tickets now and need to return to the boss area to reface them. Won’t be long for that and cannot wait.
