"Breed a Different Colored Spriggan" not completing

I'm trying to complete the rancher job quest to breed another color of spriggan. After trying 4 times with different breeding charms, finally I succeeded in breeding a purple Spriggan while the job quest was active - but it did not complete, and talking to the farmer who gives the quests did not allow me to take the next quest either. I'm not sure what to do at this point - I only have one more slot for the faerie animals, and not sure if I should continue trying to mine gems to get breeding charms if the quest is bugged? Anyone else have this issue?

haven't gotten there yet, but you can always sell excess animals. idk if it works for the baby ones though

I had the same problem with the job before, the cow like animal. 4 tries and finally I got a yellow one. Job was active, cowy in my barn but nothing happened :(
I think it is bugged. Was too disappointed to try again.

I'm having the same issue, but my spriggan's aren't even showing the different colors
