Multiplayer - Friend can't use wayshrines

I believe my friend has encountered a bug where they are not able to use a wayshrine even though they placed the item needed to activate it. Please help.

The developers are aware of this issue and working on a patch. I'm not sure what triggers it, but sometimes fully-restarting the game fixes it temporarily.
