There's a lot of crafting--almost all decor, for example, can be crafted instead of bought. You ultimately get to make a lot of things: food, artisan goods, magic potions, etc. There's a lot to do, farming obviously, but mining, fishing, foraging, animal raising. Some grind, but not overwhelmingly so. There are definitely aspects that lean a little more casual, but are kinda nice. Like instead of needing specific vegetables for a dish, you prepare what you grow into generalized chopped veggies and use that.
One of my favorite things is that you can craft from your storage. Anything and everything. If you can craft it yourself, you don't need to get stuff out of storage to do so.
Per the store page, there will be I think two DLC releases within the year. The thing is, they really pushed this game for Switch more than anywhere else, and there are actually quite a few people talking about it--but for Switch. I ended up springing for it when I saw how much love it was getting there. So there may well be content in the future beyond what's already planned. All we can do is wait and see.
The one negative is that time flies in-game so I hope they implement a option to slow down time somehow. :)
It sounds like its worth it but I honestly doubt much promise from the future aside from some small dlc that add another 10 hours each. So the game will probably ultimately be a 60 hour game or more depending on what you wanna collect. Its just these days games feel so pointless when they getting 100% is so easy. I like when there are drop rates events rotating stores..stuff like that adds replay ability and a lot of endgame.
Its nice the crafting pulls from storage and the decorating seems awesome.
I guess we will wait and see as there is no official roadmap or any details about what the devs foresee the future of this game as.
I’ve refunded the game twice due to missing features and ended up buying it on release day since I’ve waited so long to play it. I DO enjoy the game, I have 27 hours in it.
However, if you’re big into NPCs and building friendships with them and learning what they like/don’t like then just know this game doesn’t have that.
In fact, this games NPCs are so bad their “dialogues” are just a waste of your time, especially since they all constantly repeat the same things.
As for the story, it’s … okay? I find myself playing more so for the completionist aspect of crafting everything and eventually making everything I need to get pink fairy wings. The story isn’t captivating at all, although the characters are cute, you don’t feel an urgency to help them as you do with other games.
The urgency you’ll feel in this game is beating the clock because time goes by so quickly. You’ll say “one more day” and before you know it 2 hours have passed.
Although it’s like beating a dead horse at this point, it needs to be said that this game would’ve been perfect for $30 or so dollars. $60 was WAY too much, especially given the things that are missing or lackluster that they claim will come in DLC.
It makes it feel as though they left those out to make us buy the DLC.
Hope this helps
At first I was skeptical. Repeating dialogue and NPCs (shopkeepers) that never move were red flags for me at the beginning.
But I was curious to see where the story went. You can focus on the main storyline and power through. But with side quests and friend quests there is a lot of gameplay. Unique crop propagation, animal breeding, and crossing flowers are other areas to focus on if you want to slow the main story progression.
I bought the standard edition on Steam because I didn’t want to commit that much money for a game I might not enjoy but do wish I had bought the deluxe.
The one downside is the somewhat lackluster romance story lines and interactions. I have hope that this will improve in the future.
Personally I try not to make my game buying decisions based on the "how many hours versus price" calculation and focus instead on how much fun I will have while playing it.
People play games they hate for hundreds of hours, so having lots of hours is not the mark of quality people seem to make it out to be. I'd rather play a shorter fun game then slog through 10s of unenjoyable hours.
Most people who have finished the game say it's about 40 hours. I'm about half way and I'm taking my time a bit. I've seen AAA games shorter.
I bought the $40. If they don't jack the price of the DLC up too much, I will probably buy it. I enjoy the gameplay, though I've ran into about 5 bugs, only one of which is breaking the game for me (unable to accept shipping requests is a big money loss in game). I don't do Nintendo because they are greedy and stopped being good after the N64 IMO.
There are some excellent QOL choices, but they lack in other areas. Time not pausing in storage, crafting, and the like. Dialog and characters suffer. However the story is cute. I find the gameplay loop fun and you can take job quests and daily friend quests (though some see this daily friend quest as a downside with the lack of in depth personalities). It all depends on what you want, what you like, and I recommend watching some YouTube gameplay or a bunch of reviews (I've seen many comments where they watch one review and decide based on that).
