Noticed this and realised, been confirmed elsewhere, they added a cute little mechanism where the more the animals like you the more they want to be around you and they will chase you down to be close. Cute and delightful if you could fence them to a certain area and they would come running whenever you enter their pen area, a nuisance without that option :/
As others have noted the 'lure' signs seem to work for only a day or so, and fences are useless. Here's hoping this is addressed at some point.
Heading from East to West I have the Pergola, Crafting Machines, a Fence, my pathway, another fence, then my gardens. I will buy one rabbit again, give it food but don't "pet" it and see if that will solve the problem.
***And hope that the "cute little mechanic" gets taken out of the game. Please!!!***
Even if it just had an order/weighting of preference or a way to choose to close them in a pen with just enough farm build space for fodder placement (like 10x5 space to place existing grass/fodder items and a gate to choose between full farm roam and just pen roaming) it would probably be much better. Is there a lure sign? __Follow that only and stay there__. Is there no lure sign? Go give the player affection then, obviously they want that interaction.
