Oddly enough I have never seen them actually used in the game play aside from that first choice.
This day in age I have a little bit of sympathy for devs with this kind of stuff because whether they include them or not people will complain either way so its really a no win for them.
You do understand that pronouns are stuff like he, him, she, her as well, right? The game is asking you about your gender (or preferred pronouns), would you prefer the game to just not let you choose a gender at all? Ironically sounds very progressive, but I doubt that's your intention.
people doing what they want is soooooo authoritarian
There are 10 kinds of people, those who understand binary, and those who don't.
You forgot They/Them, not surprising since it blows you entire argument here out of the water lol. They/Them is the genderless option (and very progressive!!!).
What is hilariously telling to me and identifies this as all useless virtue signaling is that the stupid pronouns are not even used in the game play. The mess is there just so they can check that box of inclusion.
That's what people have the biggest issue with with this stuff. The vast majority of people really don't care what you identify as. I want everyone to be happy, included and unharnessed but this pronoun stuff in games has gotten to the point where it feels forced and dumb. This game is a perfect example pick you pronouns so you can feel represented, but they don't use them at all in the game, as you character is never refereed to in 3rd person (at least that I've seen so far).
And yes having no pronoun or gender selection would be far more appropriate. The characters are only made to look male of female by the hair or choices you make. They are sexless mannequins.
Oh, and they/them has been used as a singular pronoun since before "you" was.
They/them was only used to refer to a group of individuals. That's why so many people think it's silly. People are using plural pronouns to refer to themselves. "You" is a second person pronoun and is not relevant to the discussion of third person pronouns.
edit:
I just realized you were quoting me lol. Since you clipped me let me re include the relevant context you left out because it did not fit your argument:
" I want everyone to be happy, included and unharnessed but this pronoun stuff in games has gotten to the point where it feels forced and dumb"
My issue is that it is implemented poorly, not that it is there. It feels forced and non genuine. That should annoy you more than it does me.
+1 Jester shall be awarded for the attempt to quote me out of context
