Fallout 3

Fallout 3

The d3d9.dll file causes the launcher to crash?
I am having trouble running Fallout 3 on my Win 8 Laptop. It is in compatability mode for Vista, I have also set it to run on one core, however it always reverts back to running on all four cores. When I put the d3d9.dll file in with the Fallout files, the launcher will crash and if I load the game directly it tells me that the file cannot be found, or something of the like.
Computer specs are HP Envy m6 8 gigs of ram Intel I5 quad core 2.5 gHz.
Any insight will be appreciated.

Well dont know much about Win 8 but I guess the problem is onboard graphics card maybe. Or cores. Any way you may have to try to tweak the fallout.ini file both in saves directory and fallout 3 dir. I had the same problem but i have wndows 7 32 bit.
I went through and made sure that it was only running one core and it was, also still on compatability mode. I put the .dll file back in and the error code I get reads:
The procedure entry point SfmDxGetSwapChainStats could not be located in the dynamic link library C:/Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3\d3d9.dll.
In all of the tutorials nobody else has had this problem. I'm going to keep working away at this, hopefully I can find whats wrong.

I have the same problem! Fallout 3 does not work in Windows 8, such a shame. Did you manage to find a solution?
No, I just gave up. Its strange, though, all of the previous Fallout titles run just fine.

Its sloppy programming, I must say! Even Morrowind works on Windows 8 and that is such an old game compared to Fallout 3

My brother found the solution for me and now I'm able to play it again with Win8.

Try this:

so. I went through all of the different online solutions, with none of them working. I had the same problem with "the procedure...". I figured, if the d3d9.dll file was having an issue: hell, just delete it. I did, and it instantly worked. Just delete the d3d9.dll file, and it should work.

The only people who should use d3d9.dll are those with intel graphics like HD 4000.

If you have any ATI/Nvidia card don't use it.

If you have a hybrid setup with both Nvidia and Intel graphics you can force the game to use nvidia via your nvidia control panel. Add fallout 3 and force it use the "performance adapter".

SOLVED:

https://rd.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/22838

I made a quick little Nexus page, showing people how to fix the problem. I found the problem lies with the RazerInGAmeEngine. Disable it via the Task Manager.
