Fallout 3

Fallout 3

Fallout 3 Borderless Windowed mode?
I tried -windowed -noborder in the launch options but that didn't make it borderless. Is it just not possible with Fallout 3 if I had set the options in the start screen of Fallout 3 options to Windowed? (I noticed options after you click play are different than before you hit play when you see the Fallout 3 game and hear the music).

Hey

You'll need to use a separate app or a mod:

You could use a mod, such as: OneTweak for FO3[www.nexusmods.com]. You'll need FOSE[fose.silverlock.org] (Required for the vast majority of mods). Check-out Gopher's video for more information on FOSE - Fallout 3 Script Extender : FOSE (Installing and using).

Alternatively, have a look at dedicated applications:

Enjoy :steamhappy:

Thanks for the link to the video as the read me told me to put it somewhere where I don't have the files. BUT by watching the video I found it in my steam C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3. It says to put the dll where the launcher is.. Doing that now

I was worried that it wouldn't work because the readme says "update the shortcut to point to fose_loader.exe instead of Fallout3.exe or FalloutLauncher.exe" but mine is steam://rungameid/22300 .. I lauched it through FOSE and typed in GetFOSEVersion and it said I have version 1 so it is installed correctly. Now to try the mod you suggested.

Extract the 7-Zip archive, and move the .dll files and fose_loader.exe to the root Fallout 3 folder - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3
Fallout 3 will now be launched from the executable "fose_loader.exe" - Make a shortcut (Right click the exe > Send to > Desktop (create shortcut)); optionally, add the Fallout 3 logo.

Kindly look through the video tutorial for a clear step by step guide.

From the FOSE Readme
1. Copy the .dll files and fose_loader.exe to your Fallout 3 directory. This is usually in your Program Files folder, and should contain files called Fallout3.exe, FalloutLauncher.exe and the G.E.C.K. (if installed).

2. Launch Fallout by running fose_loader.exe from the Fallout3 directory.

If you use a desktop shortcut to launch Fallout 3 normally, just update the shortcut to point to fose_loader.exe instead of Fallout3.exe or FalloutLauncher.exe.

Do I need to have G.E.C.K. installed? I don't.

Nope, you do not need to have GECK installed.
It's primarily used to create and edit mods.
Mod users do not need to install GECK.
Also now that I have FOSE installed and confirmed working, the OneTweak .. says to put it in the plugins folder.

Manually:Copy OneTweak.dll and OneTweak.ini to [game install directory]Data/*SEPluginsWhere *SE stands for SKSE or FOSE or NVSE or OBSE.

Do I just make a new folder called FOSEPlugins?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3\Data has only the folders Music, Shaders, and Video

Yes, you'll need to create the respective folder(s), so:
  • Copy and paste the files - OneTweak.dll and OneTweak.ini to:
    ....\steamapps\common\Fallout 3\Data\FOSE\Plugins

Okay I figured it out. It is \FOSE\Plugins and the ini's go into that folder and the FOSE folder with the Plugin folder inside of that and the files inside of that were all in the zipped file so I just had to copy it out .. was easier than I thought but in the read me it was a little odd .. Could have been worded better. Anyway I am in the game right now alt tabbed out typing my thanks to you :) Thank you :) You helped clarify nicely where I needed it. :) I appreciate it.

Yes, it does sound a little tedious at times.
Once you've had a playthrough of the game - if you are interested in modding the game, have a look through some of the tutorials on Gopher's YouTube Channel:

Enjoy Fallout 3 :steamhappy:
Thank you so much Terminus! :steamhappy:
