Fallout 3
Ordinal 43 Not Found?
Since upgrading to Window's 10, I haven't been able to get my Fallout 3 to work properly. Upon clicking Play, the game crashes. The game also worked fine prior to upgrading from Windows 7. Can someone help?

Error message: Fallout3.exe- Ordinal Not Found
The ordinal 43 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\xlive.dll,

I tried downloading that zip file that everyone says works and i dont get an error message anymore. instead when click play on the launcher the launcher pops back up.
Are you sure you did it right? Have you tried other solutions as well? It took a bit of experimenting for me to get it working. Let's see,
Did you try to verify all your files? That all your files are there?
Did you try to completely remove and then reinstall the game?
If so, did you verify your game again?
When was the last time you were able to play it?
If you don't know how to verify your files, go to your steam library, rightclick the game, then go to properties, then local files and there, there should be a tab "verify integrity game files" or something like that, if you are using another language then english, it will probably be something else.

It's late sept, 2020 and just want anyone trying to get this to work on Win10 that the link Blindy_The_Bat posted fixed this problem for me. Download the top one, copy the 2 files over to your f3 folder, accept and replace and it worked for me. Hope this helps
Good job in keeping this post alive and on top of everything.

Hey I know this thread is old but just in case someone like me had an itch to play Fallout 3 again and ran into this problem I fixed it just by finding an xlive.dll download here. https://www.dll-files.com/xlive.dll.html Specifically I used the top one that says SDK Debug LIVE DLL in the description box, then just unzipped it and copied it over to my fallout 3 game folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3 goty. Again I know this is old but I wanted to share this since it works flawlessly and only took me like 30 seconds.
You are my hero!!! Thank you!!!!1

You're a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ life saver!
yes youre a life saver, all these other posts saying download this and download that didnt work, your method did instantly, it seems the game is looking for the dll in the same folder as the executable, i would never have figured that out.:g:
That's why I make sure to answer ocasionally, to make sure this topic doesn't disappear too far into the pages.
I got this error recently, I tried to install the official xlive, but unfortunately, there is a 404 error on one of the downloads : wllogin_64.msi. I found a link with this file : https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/1012-microsoft-games-for-windows-live/
It helped me a lot, I hope this can help you too.

OMG thank you it worked, but now FO3 refuses to work for some other reason.

But thank you anyway.
hi there, im having the same immediate CTD problem that everyone else had. i installed the game fresh, downloaded the dll file that everyone else has and have gotten completely nowhere. Help?
Playing it now. No stupidly complicated nexus mods just place the xlive.dll and xlive.ini in the syswow64 folder in the windows folder. No crashes at all in the 2 weeks i have been replaying this great game. Also go to the games install folder and right click on fallout3.exe and chose properties and goto the compatibility tab and check mark the box by run this program in compatibility mode and chose windows xp service pack 3 click apply and then click ok. Do the same for falloutlauncher.exe .

If anyone is still struggling to fix this issue by downloading Games for Windows Live, but can't find a working installer, try this:

- Google search "downloads-82 games for windows live" which should get you the following site: https://www.download82.com/download/windows/games-for-windows-live/

- Click the Free Download button. If it doesn't work when you click it, right-click to open it in a new tab - it DOES download.

- You should download a ~70MB package, which should install everything (as opposed to trying to ping a defunct MS URL/IP).

Now try reloading Fallout 3. This worked for me after all other options came to naught (although I DID have to run the fallout3 executable in Compatibility Mode for WinXP SP3).

Hope this helps! Just got a Ryzen/Radeon 5700XT system and have been dying to try Fallout 3...

Why install all that extra junk from games from windows live when you can just use the xlive.dll and the xlive.ini. No need to install all that extra crap. Why take up 50 megs when you can take up 10kb.
