Fallout 3 for mac?

Can I start up a petition here for there to be a version of fallout 3 made for Mac OSX? If you agree please also post for this.... I don't want a million posts of "Mac's suck" because obviously this post would be for mostly mac users, I just think this is an awesome game and should have a mac format (or any of the fallout games for that matter)

No point really, Bethesda has moved on and would not bother wasting resources on a game as old as this. I have a mac as well as a windows computer, but to be honest they would not make back the money it would cost to port this over.

it takes a lot of work to port a game to mac, and this game uses directx, which is windows/xbox only. The amount of work it would take to port it to openGL and to mac would cost more then it would make. Just install windows, it's the best gaming platform.

Personal Notes:
This Port has been created and tested to play the official Steam editions of Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas on OS X under Wine.

The wrapper is configured to run Steam but Steam is not yet installed. Please follow the instructions below to install and run Steam. After this you can download the official editions of Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas on Steam and play both games on this wrapper under OS X.

OS: OS X 10.11.3
CPU: Dual-Core i5 2.4GHz, Quad-Core i7 2.2GHz
RAM: 8 GB
Video: Intel Iris, Intel HD 3000, AMD Radeon HD 6750M
Disk Space: 20.84 GB (1.05 GB for wrapper only)
Known Issues:
Macs with Intel graphic boards need to fake a different GPU or Fallout 3 crashes right after clicking Play.
See the instructions below how to apply the d3d9 trick.
Macs equipped with NVIDIA or ATI/AMD graphic boards are not affected.
Fallout New Vegas is not affected.
It's very likely that Wine will hang when it tries to launch Steam automatically at the end of the Steam installation - just quit and restart Wine if you notice that nothing happens.
The Steam Store remains black. You need to purchase the games through your web browser and add them via the +Add A Game button in the lower left. See the following bug reports for details: https://bugs.winehq....ug.cgi?id=38960 and https://bugs.winehq....ug.cgi?id=39403
When quitting the games the screen does not fully fade back to Steam. Press command + tab to solve this.
After quitting a game you need to restart Steam to launch the games again.
Games sometimes crash. Try updating to newer Wine engines to see if there are improvements in performance and stability (see instructions below). For frequent crashes (see also https://www.youtube....h?v=ZX0Tr0w1jbY):
Modify the bUseThreadedAI=1 and iNumHWThreads=2 entries in the Fallout.INI file.
Try lower video quality settings.
In macOS Sierra 10.12, you need to make a ctrl-click on the Steam on Wine (Fallout) wrapper and select Open in the context menu EVERYTIME you want to launch it. For some reason, macOS Sierra doesn't remember the security exception, so a double-click won't work to start the app.
1. Steam Installation:
Download the SteamSetup.exe file for Windows at http://store.steampowered.com/about/
Download the wrapper from the download link on this page.
Unzip the downloaded Steam on Wine (Fallout).zip file.
Hold the ctrl key and make a mouse click on the unzipped Steam on Wine (Fallout) wrapper. Select Show Package Contents in the contextual menu.
Within the wrapper there are two folders (Contents and drive_c) and one application file (Wineskin). Hold the ctrl key and make a mouse click on the Wineskin icon. Choose Open from the contextual menu (see also https://support.apple.com/kb/PH21769 for more information about opening an app from an unidentified developer).
Perform the following steps in the Wineskin window:
Click the Install Software button.
Click Choose Setup Executable.
Select the SteamSetup.exe file you downloaded from the Steam website.
Run the Steam installation.
It's very likely that Wine will hang when it tries to launch Steam automatically at the end of the installation - just quit and restart Wine if you notice that nothing happens. Make sure /Program Files/Steam/Steam.exe is selected in Wineskin as Windows EXE under the Configuration tab. Close the Wineskin application after the installation.
You can then just double-click the Steam on Wine (Fallout) app to log in to your Steam account and to run the Windows version of Steam on OS X. If you receive a warning message about unidentified developer, hold the ctrl key and make a mouse click on the Steam on Wine (Fallout) icon. Choose Open from the contextual menu (you only need to do this once, see https://support.apple.com/kb/PH18657 for details).

2. Installing Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas:
This is not different to any other Steam installation. Just install the games through Steam.

Due to a bug in WS9Wine1.8 it is recommended to first launch Fallout New Vegas before Fallout 3. This triggers the first time setup for Fallout New Vegas and correctly installs the .NET framework that is also required by Fallout 3. If you only have Fallout 3 installed then please downgrade to WS9Wine1.7.55 before launching the game for the first time. You can switch back to WS9Wine1.8 after the first time setup (see the Updating Wine section below for details).

If your Mac is equipped with NVIDIA or ATI/AMD graphic boards then you are done and you can enjoy playing. Use the System Information app in the Utilities folder of OS X to review the graphic board configuration of your Mac under Graphics/Display. 3. Fallout 3 on Macs with Intel graphic boards (see Known Issues):
If you have a Mac with an Intel video graphic board then you need to add a modified d3d9.dll file to the game folder and activate it through the Wine configuration.
Hold the ctrl key and make a mouse click on the Steam on Wine (Fallout) wrapper icon. Select Show Package Contents in the contextual menu.
Go to the d3d9.dll for Intel GPU folder in the Program Files folder inside the wrapper.
Move or copy the d3d9.dll file to /Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Fallout 3 goty/ (if you have the GOTY edition) or to /Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Fallout 3/ (if you have the standard edition).
Open the Wineskin application within this wrapper.
Click the Tools tab.
Click Config Utility (winecfg).
Click the Libraries tab in the new window.
Enter d3d9 In the text field where it says New override for library and click the Add button.
Click the OK button then wait a few seconds and close the Wineskin app.

You can now open the Steam on Wine (Fallout) app again and play the game in Steam on Macs with Intel graphic boards. You will notice in the video options of Fallout 3 that the Graphics Adapter shows as NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS (see screenshot).

Updating Wine
Wine gets continuously updated. In most cases performance and stability improve with new releases. You need the Wineskin Winery app to download the latest Wine engines for OS X.

Unzip the downloaded file and place the Wineskin Winery app to a location of your choice.
Open the Wineskin Winery app.
Click the + button where it says New engine(s) available!
Select the newest engine.
Click Download and Install, then click OK.
Quit the Wineskin Winery app.
Open the Wineskin app from within the game wrapper.
Click Advanced.
Click the Tools tab.
Click Change Engine Used on the lower right under Wrapper Tools.
Select the latest engine you installed before with the Wineskin Winery app.
Click OK.
A test run will be performed automatically. Just go through it or quit/abort it.
Quit the Wineskin app.
I am using WS9Wine1.9.24 on this wrapper. Feel free to leave a comment to share your experience with new versions.
