Fallout 3 Windows 7-10 Crash Fix (EASY)
If any of you are like me, you might be having trouble running fallout 3 on your windows 7 or later. In this case Windows 10. Either way I have spent numerous hours looking continuously for a way to fix the crashes in the game. For most of you having this problem like me, you most likely DONT have a gaming PC. My pc is the same way, here are my specs:

6 gigs of DDR3 RAM
intel i3 2.20GHZ processor
Windows 10 OS
Intel HD integrated Graphics
64 bit system

Obviously my specs show i dont have a gaming pc, although the lac of my horrible graphics card had been made up by my RAM. Obviously my ram isnt insainly high, but it decent for a traditional standard laptop.

Either way as ive said before my ram works up for my lac of graphics. Ive been able to run Skyrim, Lego Worlds, CS:GO, Kingdoms of Amalur, AC Black Flag even fallout new vegas, all completely fine with no insane problems and only minor lag on some games. But When i got fallout 3, my game wouldnt load past the splash screen. so i went to the forums and got no help until i finally figured out all i had to do was "exit" the splash screen and reopen the launcher. At this point my game fixed. I was able to launch the game completely fine, Until I tried to start a new save/game. At this point the game would crash to the desktop and tell me there was an error with the game. I searched long and hard trying to find a fix with no luck until i found a solution. First of all I need To say that at the end of the post I'l Credit every one I can think of for helping me find this solution.

But thats off topic, Back to the point, From a Few sorces I found out a solution to my problem and hopefully yours also. It never occured to me that the problem i was having would have anything to do with graphics, But according to the solution I found, graphics was the ENTIRE problem. Like i said at the beggining of the post I stated my graphics card Is awefull. Because of this, somehow the game would just crash to desktop because of my graphics card. Im not knowledgable on computers enough to explain how this happens but all i can say is that it messes up the game causing it to crash. Its also important to know that this is a fix STRICKTLY FOR INTEL HD GRAPHICS ONLY. IT WILL NOT HELP IF YOU ARE USING ANY OTHER TYPE OF GRAPHICS. Any ways, to fix this problem isnt that hard at all, but it is a nexus mod, but i can assure you, it is trustworthy and in no way i have seen being vicious. The nexus Mod Is Called "Intel HD graphics Bypass Package".

Like the name describes, the mod is a dll file basically used to confuse your computer (the game) (Fallout 3) to trick it into thinking your computer has a better graphics card. Because of this the game excepts you into letting you play the game by excepting your fake graphics card and letting you play the game peacefully. Basically a fake ID for your computer.
Although because of this the game may work your computer to hard and make the game run poorly. For instance, my graphics card is an intel hd (really crappy graphics card) and thanks to this mod, it tells the game that your graphics card is a better graphics card, most likely you will notice this at the splash screen. By going to the options tab on the splash screen you will be able to see graphics card in the box called graphics adapter. With this mod you will notice your normal intel hd crappy graphics card will be replaced with a much better graphics card the "NVIDIA Geforce 7900 GS". This being a really good graphics card. But obviously this doesnt physicly replace your graphics card, the mod simply tricks fallout into thinking you have a much better graphics card giving you the allowence to run the game. Now Your most likely done listening to me ramble about worthless anecdotle so here are my instructions to install and apply the mod.

First thing you want to do is go to the url i game earlier: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/17209/?

Going to this site you will see a button saying download manual. click that button and it should install a zip file. I dont think you need any special software to extract the files but by oppening it you should see a DLL file and a read me file, along with a file either called FALLOUT, or fallout.uni.

First il try to save you the time of reading the readme file and try to explain it as simple as possible. First thing you want to do is go to your games library though steam. right click and then select properties. then go to local files and select browse local files. once there it cant be more simple. Simply take the dll file from the mod u downloaded. (should be called d3d9) and then move the dll file to your fallout 3 folder. Thats it. Your done. Well, sort of. If your computer isnt complete crap and has at least 3 gigs of ram you shouldnt have any problems. This should fix your problem and when you open the game to start a new save it should work properly. But the only problem YOU MIGHT have, would be the game running poorly. Because the the mod tricks the game into thinking you have a better graphics card, the game MIGHT attempt to turn its setting up trying to work out the full potential of the graphics card you dont actualy have. like i said this might happen but most likely wont, a way to see this happening would be lag. But if you have a decent computer you shouldnt encounter this problem. BUT IF YOU DO simply take the FALLOUT or fallout.uni file i talked about earlier, and port it over to the fallout folder just like you did with the dll file. This isnt neccesary and is only a resort if your computer is crap. what it bassicaly does is tells your computer to "take it easy" and slow down and not work your computer so hard. But this is only optional and isnt needed. I highly UNRECOMMEND doing it. But after that is done you should be able to play the game in peace with no crashes running completely fine. If I took to long or didnt explain enough in this post I would like to credit the Mod maker and the original poster of the Youtube tutorial on how to fix this: his video URL is here, If i did a bad job at explaining this PLEASE GO CHECK OUT HIS VIDEO AND SUPPORT HIM FOR HIS HELP.
