Command & Conquer™: Generals

Command & Conquer™: Generals

Already have the C&C Ultimate Collection on the EA app
Not sure if this has been asked before but will buying this on Steam affect my copy on the EA app?

If you already have the collection for EA. What would be the point buying it for steam? It adds nothing more to the game and does not even support steam features like achievements. So it would be a waste of money to buy it again for the exact same product.

So you don't have to deal with EA ever again and we finally have a reason to uninstall Origin forever.

Sure EA will laugh at you if they see that this game sold on Steam in one day more than on EA in several years, also most C&C fans owned most of the games in the full collection already so the bundle did only cost about 6$, 30% goes to Steam, 19% goes to my local tax 1% goes to PayPal for currency conversion and a bit of the remaining 3$ again gets taxed in the US, what is left then get's split between the publisher and the developer.
(In this case the developer is the publisher, but still.)

If you don't like the pile of garbage that is the EA store software you should totally buy it here, it is completely EA app free and has in the past few days already revitalized the communities and even caused some mods that have been abandoned for years to be updated again.

Showing EA how wrong they are by spending a Big Mac worth of money is worth it in my books.

(I'd always recommend the GoG version for games that old, but it's not on GoG.)

Nice to know that it is steam only, I'll assume everything in the Command & Conquer™ The Ultimate Collection bundle is also eapp free.
At least the notable titles like red alert 2,3, CNC Zero Hour?
I am also quite sure i got the bundle tied to some hardware purchase on the app so it's not a big spending effort for me to get it here.

You can use the community hub like writing review, post guide and screenshots, use the steam overlay in game, etc.

How are they laughing when they lose players on their platform? Current;y, The entire bundle is no more expensive than my Dominos Pizza lunch I had a couple of hours ago.

If someone already owns the collection on EA or not. Its completely pointless to own on Steam. Plus, you do not even need Origin to run these games. Thats how old they are.

As all the things you described have nothing to do with a decades old games. They add nothing.

Im saying that EA is laughing because you just paid for the game again on Steam. Which bring absolutely nothing new to any of these games. :steamfacepalm:

You don't know what you're talking about. I was playing these on CD until they enforced DRM that bricked the CD versions, forcing us to buy their Origin versions. I bought a physical copy of the C&C Collection only to find an Origin code inside of the box.

To play the Origin versions, you have to be logged into their Origin/EA App. I know this because I had to do this on like 4 separate computers.

The Steam version removes the need for any of this nonsense. First thing I did was delete the EA app from my PC because I no longer have any reason to possess it.

As far as I know, the only way you're getting around this is if you are using a pirated copy of the game. I think some mods may be standalone, like Rise of the Reds, but I am unsure of that.

The other aspect of all this is maybe Steam sales of old C&C games will drive it through EA's thick skulls that we want more C&C.

I still have my CD's as well. No, there is not a DRM issue and they all work just fine.

If you bought the collection after Origins launched, well than you didnt actually get a serial for the games. You got a code to Origin.

The games are older than Origin itself. Its pointless to waste even more money, on the same exact game/s. Whether you own the originals or because you prefer 1 launcher over the other. Especially when the games are the exact same and you arent getting anything new or different with each version. :steamfacepalm:

To help you out. Whether you own the games on CD or if you own the Origin version. You can install those games. Than, you could of used exe fixes or community mods to bypass the requirement for Origins or CD check. Thus launching just the game.

Which I know for a fact you can do. Because I did it for Yuris Revenge which I got for free from EA. Even though I already owned it. What I did was I download the game and install from Origin, and use a community mod to bypass having to use Origin.

Done and you can still use it to play MP. Which you need community mod anyway because EA doesnt support MP anymore for any of these games. They are basically almost freeware at this point they are so old.

Not only did you end up buying the game, but it seems like you have now bought the game 3 times. Once on CD, the second for Origin, and a third for Steam. Man, EA got you good.

So yea, I do believe I know exactly what I am talking about. Because I only bought the game once and can still play them all today. On any computer of mine without the need for any launcher.

Actually, EA dropped the source code for the C&C collection. Modders are freaking out now that they can finally mod the SAGE engine.

EDIT: Well I guess that's what they talk about in the post you linked to :P

Anyway, great news all around. Would love to just have mods on here instead of all of these crazy third party software just to run them

Great news! Maybe now they will fix the server issue and you will soon be able to play MP again without needing another 3rd party program. Like they did for RA2 and Yuri.

Hopefully if they do that it will get people into MP more. I rather play this online than ZH. As it is too campy with some of those stealth generals and can be annoying with the unnecessary longer playtime.
