Fix for game.dat not responding and DirectX-Error

I finally managed to run the game by fixing decade old errors. Baffles me that a multi billion company is releasing such buggy crap.

1. Go to your users folder \Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data and create an options.ini file and add:

TextureReduction = 0
UseAlternateMouse = yes

UseDoubleClickAttackMove = yes
UseLightMap = yes
UseShadowDecals = yes
UseShadowVolumes = yes
VoiceVolume = 70

(i just found this fix on the internet and i dont know if all lines are actually needed, but better be safe than sorry, i just adjusted the Resolution = 1920 1080 part to fit my screen resolution.)

THEN i went into the C&C generals steam folder and renamed the dbghelp.dll file, since it seems to be an decade old buggy .dll the DEVs used for testing purposes back then.

Voila, game seems to run fine now. Hope it will stay like this.

I had the same game.dat issue - at least it seemed to be an issue - because once I waited 1 or 2 minutes instead of clicking the icon in the taskbar or the loading screen itself, it finally started.

Thankyou this seemed to have worked, however there is initial loading freeze before it works. Great job. Do you know if this works for all the other games in this collection?

This was the first game of the collection that had a problem, but i only tested Generals, Renegade and Tiberium Sun so far. Guess Gernerals Zero Hour could suffer from the same problem.
