Can't open the game once because it won't get past the launch screen that buffers infinitely.

Go to properties and add this to launch options.

-xres 2560 -yres 1440

Change to your desired resolution obviously.

Filthy Peasant, I made a guide to fix that under Generals Zero Hour.

To have in-game support for high resolutions, and widescreen resolutions, just download and apply GenPatcher. It should fix all issues with Generals on modern OSes, and add support for things like high resolutions.

You can download it from here: https://legi.cc/downloads/genpatcher/

I found the file (options.ini) in my C-drive --> Users --> User --> Documents --> Command and Conquer Generals Data (+Zero Hour) --> Options.
There I just pasted the above text into that file.

NOTE: You may need to change the 14th line, Resolution, to whatever your native resolution is. For me, it was "2560 1440". But for others it may be less.

Also, you need to initially start the game and let it give you the "technical difficulties" error, and then do the same thing with the Zero Hours expansion, before changing the (options.ini) file.
