They're total idiots and they said they didn't have the source code because it was lost.
Now they publish this (don't know if they just added steam on top of it or what) without multiplayer, mods and cheats don't work anymore and they didn't even bother to make fixes to make it run smoothly on win 11.
Sad band of thieves EA, sad band of thieves.

Lets have a blast
Publishing a game is different than coding a game, when you distribute a game, you only need the original files & data.
The EA Team only tweaked some config files, registry & some other things to make it work properly without having constant crashes or errors on modern hardware, or in most cases some old games require a key for you to enter in order for you to play the game. (Example: C&C: The First Decade Collection)
If they really have the original source code, they would have made the multiplayer worked properly, which requires a dev team to look inside of the game engine and adjust some codes. Do note most C&C games were released in the late 90's till 2000's. Which means most of them used Gamespy, and we all know what happened to Gamespy.
I'm not defending EA. But this is fact, & things that the C&C Community has stated throughout 3 decades, which is why even most SAGE engine games are capped to 30fps, even modding cannot solve some issues, especially in a singleplayer campaign.
However if you still want to play multiplayer, I'd suggest you look at CNCNet, GameRanger or Hamachi.
And i have to explain a bit, CNCNet, GameRanger & Hamachi also don't have the original source code, they only use a software to trick the client into thinking it's Gamespy in order for it to work.
