Game crashes on commando mission when getting close to edge of map

I recently started playing C&C for first time, i am on the mission where your given a commando as well as a helicopter later on. The game crashes whenever i move the commando near the edge of the map. Why does this keep happening?

It's the infamous 'Commando Bug' that has existed in unpatched version of they game since it's initial release. There is a community patch to fix it but I'm not sure if it works the steam release, the creator of said patch says it does but the details on how to patch it are not in any way explained well by him;

Mine was a little more extreme as the game would crash upon loading the mission.

The solution I found was to load back a previous save where I tried to avoid exploring the top and bottom edges of the map, after that I could load into the next mission without it crashing. Sounds like you'll just need to replay that mission while avoiding both the top and bottom as much as possible.

I had this happening constantly on the GDI mission with the hospital along with randomly failing the objectives as it took me a while to figure out the civilians were suiciding themselves into the Tiberium...

Additionally: Restarting your PC may also fix the issue when reloading into the next mission if it initially crashes. Hope it helps!

The patch fixes the actual crash in the game code, though. No need to mess around with anything after that.

But yea I should get around to actually updating it for Steam...
