Command & Conquer™ and The Covert Operations™

The Ulimate Collection in Steam is unplayable in windows 11 ( Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert 1,..)
(My English bad, sorry)
I mean those "Modern game" like C&C 3, 4 almost run fine on my PC. But for those older game like Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert 1 they can't even start and get frezee black screen. Why EA sell the game that can't even run ? Thanks you for any help.

I think the only reason EA didn't use that one was because they couldn't contact all the people involved in the project. They like to have official agreements even for using such open source stuff.

The older games use a compatibility system called DDrawCompat to help them run on modern PCs. One thing you can do is install the latest version of this system:

C&C1 specifically also has a few serious bugs that can crash the game. To resolve those, I made a patch with some essential fixes for the game. You can find that here:

Thanks. I will try these.
I also hear about CNC DDraw:
https://github.com/FunkyFr3sh/cnc-ddraw/releases
Is this equal to that DDrawCompat and good to use ?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

It should work fine, I used it to fix Red Alert 1 running on Win 11 as well

I wanna ask something, I have installed CNC ddraw, the game can run smooth now but still get random freeze and crash, mostly happen when I'm saving game or just press the menu, even during gameplay it get random freeze. Anyway to fix it ? Thanks.
I already tried to use your patch but it fix nothing.

There is an .ini file that accompanies the .dll file which contains extra settings you can tweak.

If none of the options in there fix it, you can try using the DDrawCompat one instead.

These kinds of issues are all external though, related to the graphics drawing systems. The fixes patch I made just fixes bugs in the game itself; it has no effect on such things.

Ok. i understand it's hard, seem like we live with these issues until the game developer fix it and i think they never do :)))

Well, no, the person who developed DDrawCompat already did a bunch of fixes. But they're not in the version included in the game, of course. So yea, as I originally said, you can see if the latest version of that fixes it.

Yeah, we all hope that but understand it is very old game ( 30 years ago i guess ) so today there very few people play it or even know about it. We should move on and play the remaster instead :))
