the fighting mechanics are different...it's whatever series you prefer...
I suck at fighting games but still LOVE playing them so I have both....
That's not to say this game is bad, I've played the hell out of KOF XIII on consoles, and it has a very unique feel(a mixture of anime fighters and sf in a way), but it also has a HUGE execution barrier to get optimized combos down.
I went from SG to this, but this is more my kind of fighter.
But you don't even need optimized combos. Even the easy stuff can win if your punishes are on point and your fundamentals are solid. There's quite a few people online I've seen who can bust out some pretty sick combos, but every other facet of their game is straight-up buttcheeks, so they lose miserably. Not that I'm a great player myself, but this kind of "oh it's soooo hard" talk doesn't help grow a playerbase.
Everyone is right, though, when they say they're really different. SG remined me a lot more of MvC2 with a hint of KI (ultra combo!!!). If you liked previous KoFs than you may be a big fan of this game. But I'd say what everone you decide to get, put the other on your wish list and wait for it to go on sale.
KoF is an ultimate fighting game, complete edition and official EVO game. There is no reason to buy Skull Girls, it's more like a simple flash game as opposed to KoF.
I'm not trying to help grow the player base, he asked for a reccommendation so I gave mine. Not needing optimized combos and having fundamentals could be said about ANY fighting game. That doesn't change the fact that the execution in this game even on basic bnb combos is extremely high compared to other games.
And to LordofEntertainment you must not be paying attention to that game at all. Every character is free for a certain time period after they come out(a pretty long period btw), the colors as well. I supoported their IGG campaign and haven't paid for anything except for the beta access($30), yet I have all the content. So the earlier you buy the game the less you have to pay in the long run(assuming you enjoy it and want the extra characters they're making).
