The graphics in this game are amazing
Seriously, these are some of the best hand drawn animations ive ever seen in a game. Why did they change the graphics in the upcoming KoF? They could have atleast went with a cell shaded look ala dragon quest or Tales of Symphonia minus the chibi

Because the KOFXII/XIII style graphics (SNK likes to call it dot art[kofaniv.snkplaymore.co.jp]) are very expensive to make compared to 3D graphics.

Not to mention that the average customer finds the 2D graphics "too pixelized" and "not up to today's standards".

Damn I knew this style takes work, but over a yeah for 1 character is crazy. . But I think cell shaded graphics would have looked nice. Guilty Gear Xrd did it and it came out very nice looking while still using 3D modles

yes its true that XIII art was expensive but this is not fair to make such a bad art in new KOF game XIV
they should have made some thing better
but whats done its done now :(

I agree, KoF XIII is beautiful. Both the characters and the backgrounds.
I havent seen much of KoF XIV, but what I have seen does make me worry. Hopefully Mai and Angel are sexy at least.

While I am not the biggest fan of the graphics in KoF XIV either, you have to consider that SNK basically has no money at their disposal and they sadly really had no other option.

Cel shading will not fix KOF14. KOF has a different aesthetic than GG. GGXrd's artstyle works for GG because it always had an anime presentation. Cel shading would be faithful to KOF's aesthetic.

according to oda, the true aim since 94 was to be realistic and we got so accustom to the 13 anime look. thats why they wanted to go back to the roots and didnt use cel shading

Today is easier to work with 3d than make sprites in 2d.I agree that the graphics of kof 13 are good but some characters look strange as Goro daimon,Ralph and Clark.

14's primary problem is the lighting and shadows. It's not because they're using PS2 tech, but because they're making their engine from scratch, and don't have a lot of experience with 3D yet. It's gotten progressively better, and the end product will at least look better than SF5.

Gameplay is the most important thing in a game and KOF XIV's gameplay is fantastic.
