Mic is not working but, headphones are
Hey all,
I have checked the forums and googled how to fix this issue and can't find it. So I come to you for your help. Before I tell you my head phones type I will give you my pc specs.

I am running Windows 8.1 with 32 gigs of Ram, intel core i7-4770 cpu @ 3.40 ghz, 64 bit operating system with a Sound blaster audigy fx sound card newly installed 4 months ago.

My head set is:

Each G2000 mic/headset type with a usb/ mic and head phone plug in. It was all working fine except that if I wasn't playing Insurgency or Arma 3 I would have to unplug it to get the sound from the speakers (Logitech 2.1 with a sub woofer).

Now, I can't use the mic on my headset. Noone can hear me but I can hear them. I can hear my games just not the mic capability.

On Insurgency, I use to get the handset icon on the left side and now I don't. I do have it set to "push a button to talk" (K).

If you can help me out that would be great and other players will appreciate it as well.

Thanks in advance!

Open the voice options in Steam. Choose the device and test it. If it works in Steam it should work in-game.

@Technopath I just tried what you said and it didn't work. No movement with the teste bar

Have you tried in the Insurgency Audio setup (in game) and selected "Headphones"?
I had some similar trouble a couple of months ago....when I bought a new USB Headset made by 'Rosewill'....it was one, in which, if you installed their software, gave you many different types of sound options....to include converting from 5.1 to 7.1, even if your onboard or added sound card was not capable.....that sucker gave me fits as the headset hearing worked and the mike did not. What I did to fix it was to completely uninstall that crappy add on headset software and voila......my problems have been fixed since then. Hope this helps.....

Hmmm... seems we have to go deeper.

First of all, does the mic work in the first place? Can you record audio with it? Did you set it as the preferred 'audio input' in Windows?

In any case, you should try to completely de- and reinstall the drivers for the USB headset.

@Technopath the mic did work at first. But then it stopped working.... now I can't record audio with it (Don't know if I could in the first place, never tried).. I did add it to the preferred audio default in windows today...still nothing.

As for the drivers for the headset... that was never done... it's like the computer doesn't recognize it at all.. I do however can hear through them... just not the mic. I have searched for a driver for this headset, but can't find any... though I updated all drivers for the computer today. No difference.

I have never had such an issue with a headset that was troubling like this. P**sing me off though. :-)

@Pudfark I did try to select anything in the steam and in the Insurgency but I got this message. "Steam community in-game is currently disabled. Please enable steam community in-game or configure voice settings in your steam client." That's when I went into the "voice" option in steam and it did nothing... I'm not quite sure what that msg means, but I am sure it was a circle jerk.

Steam Client, Steam Library, right click on Insurgency, properties, General Tab, uncheck "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game"

The msg is probably out-of-date in terms of words used.

To recap; the mic stopped working when you installed a new audio card? There must be drivers for the headset, otherwise it wouldn't work in the first place. Open up the device manager and check that.

Also, are you using USB or 3.5mm? I'd try to mess around with that

@Arc I did make sure that that was unchecked... Unfortunately, I am back at square 1... Any more ideas, feel free to spout it out... I feel like a ret**d for not getting this

@Technopath I installed the sound card about 4 months ago... I got these new headphones about a month and a half ago, they worked for a little while, micing was great, but now the mic stopped... I got the headphones to work with my speakers, but still the mic isn't working at all.

Sweet jesus, sorry, i did not mean to type "uncheck", you need to enable it if you want the Community thingy, my bad (also, it does not fix your main problem anyways)
Chewy May 14, 2015 @ 9:34am
oh...I will check it off then Arc.. I do appreciate your guys' help... This damn mic is frustrating.
Chewy May 14, 2015 @ 9:57am
ok I have managed to get this far... I now have the mic icon back in insugency, However, still nobody can hear me.... I am getting closer thanks to you guys!!
Technopath May 14, 2015 @ 11:02am
Well, either your mic broke, or you did change something, which I guess is the much more likely cause.

It would be really great to know what change you made that stopped the mic from working.
Chewy May 14, 2015 @ 12:13pm
That will be something I will have to work on
