AK47 vs AKM
Which weapon is used more by insurgents (ex: Taliban) in real life?

Also in game what is the difference between these two weapons?

AK-47 is not in game

They use workshop-made and -maintained AK-47s or Khyber Pass Copies for bolt action sniper rifles. The AKM is the modernised version of the AK-47.

I think you're confusing the AK-47 (7.62×39mm Soviet), which has higher recoil and damage, with the AK-74 (5.45×39mm Soviet). The AKM is essentially the AK-47.

There a lot of photos and videos of dudes using AKMS's. They seem to be incredibly common on the Middle-Eastern front.

Dudes? Well, that's specific.

yea, because every one are mad except you... i can find hundreds of "dudes" on YT which are not insurgents, learn how to use that word properly and then you will not need to swearing on everyone you've met ;-)

Ouch.

Okay, sorry then. Can you please provide some photos (preferrably not videos)? Bear in mind not to confuse paramilitaries or independent regions with diplomatically unrecognised militaries (e.g. Kurds in Iraq) with insurgents (e.g. Taliban).

such assault rifle as ak-47 never existed. first kalashnikov was marked as AK, not AK-47

I know the design came from 1945 and they were issued in 1949...so where did the "47" come from?
Prototypes numbered 1-3 were made in 1947. I am going to assume this is why it got the name. Also most guns you call 'AK47's' are in fact AKM's. The AKM is not really a more modern AK, it's a simplified and easier to manufacture version made of stamped metal.

from people. constructors never called this gun ak-47.

i decided to add wikipedia link, but in english it's called ak-47. the article in russian uses correct mark (ak). as i understand western military uses it's own mark (ak-47) to emphasize the year it was designed. anyway, originally it was marked as AK (avtomat kalashnikova), but, actually, it doesn't realy matter

AKM is simply a modernised AK-47. There are AK-47s in Afghanistan but they are virtually worn out. Other than production methods and a slight weight reduction in the AKM; you should consider them essentially the same rifle in game. The AK-74 is a newer weapon chambered for the 5.45mm X 39mm (the AKM/AK-47 is chambered for 7.62mm X 39mm) and is much rarer because former Pact client states weren't sold on the round's ability to kill.

Sorry, I meant Ak 74 vs AKM my bad
idkman Nov 2, 2014 @ 5:23pm
AKM is high recoil, high damage, AK74 is low recoil, low damage. In real life the AKM is used way more.
Lampshade Nov 2, 2014 @ 10:00pm
The vast majority of AKs (AK-47s) produced were AKMs.
