MP5 has very high ROF, and with AP ammo good damage. It's recoil is very managable, meaning you can go full auto and spray to victory. However it is not an instant-kill on heavy armor (I think?).
The Mk18 hit's harder, but has sizable recoil on full auto. It's more a mid-range weapon than the MP5, with less damage fall-of. (The Mk18 is basically the M4, stats-wise).
Mk18 should instant kill even heavy armor with an AP chest shot.
While the UMP is a terrible choice for a good player, the AC-556 might be an alternative for fast-paced close quarters action, despite being less controllable than the more expensive carbines, which doesn't matter as much if you avoid engagements at longer distances where you need to land multiple, quick shots.
I personally use the M16A4 due to the lower cost, recoil and inaccuracy, granted with a slightly longer 1-hit range! Burst in close quarters if you're a fast and accurate aimer with some skill and trigger discipline. And the suppressor makes you a silent, yet deadly, beast.
What about the times when the enemies already knows where you are but you know where he is, isn't it useful when you have full auto to round the corner while spraying to kill him while ignoring his reaction time?
Of course, having a fully-automatic firing mode would be the better option, but the M16A4 remains a viable choice due to costing less and having less recoil with more accuracy.
Alternatively the m16 is pretty much the second fastest-firing weapon in the sec arsenal. In cqb games like insurgency and rainbow six siege, fire rate and recoil control trump literally everything else. Damage is just a number. You can have a one-shot kill weapon but if it fires slow and you miss the first shot or two, you've pretty much doomed yourself if your opponent has a fast-firing weapon even if it shoots nerf foam
