How To Lower PIng
Hi! I need some help. Can someone give me some instruction/advice on how to lower my ping? (if that is possible) I am sorry if this is a dumb question....I love insurgency and I have played it for 477 hours but I am not too great with computers. Thanks in advance.

What exactly is your average ping? Beware of people giving you nonsense advice about what is "too high." I've been gaming for many years, and I've watched the definition of "too high" keep getting lower and lower as internet speeds increased, despite the fact that precisely none of those people were Jedis who could notice single milliseconds of delay.

My average ping is around 200 or a little less, so like slugs said, upgrading to a better router would probably be the best way to go. I have a good internet connection but sometimes my ping will spike to 400-500 and then return to normal in 30 seconds or so.

A single millisecond makes no difference, 100 milliseconds can be a minor noticeable delay, 400-500 is terrible. That's half a second for the enemy to shoot you in the face, or get out of the way of your shot. Some games it doesn't matter, but in a competetive FPS game it really does ;)

I'm also wonderin if someone could help out, I average about 350 ping or so and it's awful. I shoot fellas straight in the face in this game and they practically never die.

are you paying attention to the latency of servers when choosing one?

What are your current download/upload speeds? Use this free program to determine them 'speedtest.net' Then using the same program, what is your latency/ping to Chicago, St. Louis and Dallas?
thx for the replies

Choose a server with the lowest latency and make sure you're not downloading anything when you play.

try this;

open console (or better create autoexec) for these 3 commands

rate 10000
cl_updaterate 16
cl_cmdrate 16

if you're on ADSL, theres a program called cfosspeed. go download the trial and see if that helps your gaming.

You could try breaking the laws of Einstein's Theory of General Relativity.
