magazine exchangeability
so after many many hours of gameplay, despite the game being realistic and semi-realistic on many fronts, especially when it comes to ammo and magazine mechanics, but i have noticed that magazines are not interchangeable between different gun models.

classic example: the soviet/eastern bloc line of rifles.

irl, the sks, the ak47, akm, and the rpk all share the same catridge. now i can forgive the sks not being able to share ammo with the other ones due to having a different magazine (only some versions of the sks/ckc support the ak banana mag), but the rest of the guns (ak47, akm, and rpk) all use the same magazine design (sure the rpk depicted in game uses a drum mag but that's no excuse, it's still compatible).

and then there is also the ak74 and aks74u, which uses the same 5.45x39 round. (the 2 guns are literally variants of one another)

same goes for the american rifles like the m16, m4, mk18 and the ac-556, all of which uses the same round and the same magazine.

don't even get me started with the fal and the slr. they are basically reskins of each other, and yes, irl, they use the same ammo and mag.

i'll give the galil (of which there seems to be 2 variants in game) a pass since there are so many models and versions of it irl that they could be shooting any kind of round.

of a game taking so much pride in its realism, i thought the devs could have at least added this in unless it requires serious changes to the source engine.

Actually, that's not true. You can switch out Galil Mags, FAL mags, and A74 and ak74s mags. You just have to have the same type of ammo i n the mag. oTherwise it doesn't count.

The game does not take it's pride in it's realism at all, go to the store page, the only mention of realism is in how the weapon behave, there's no mention of realistic gameplay at all.

As the guy above said, if you don't have the same ammo type (everyone uses AP) you won't be able to share the same ammo pool.

Let’s be real here dude everyone knows it as a “realistic shooter” stop acting like it’s COD or some unrealistic game. Also one of the tags for it in the store is “realistic” which means what they want to focus on

oh wow. i usually use ap as well but i guess bots don't.

still, i think you should be able to swap magazines despite ammo selection. just make the mag already in the gun the ammo type of the dude who dropped it and all subsesquent mags our type of ammo.

also does magazine size affect this? like on the galil you can get drum mags and on the fal you can get extended mags.

The community has made that clear to NWI, and as a result, it's a feature in Insurgency Sandstorm! This game was made quite a while ago. It's fun, but a lot of its mechanics are primitive. I'm not dogging on the game or anything, I'm just making the point that the game is a little t o o simple.

And to answer your question, if you have a galil, and you pick up a galil with a DRUM rather than a standard 35 round magazine, you won't be able to reload it.

Have to take issue here since we're picking nits. The Ruger Mini-14 (of which the AC-556 is a derivative) does not accept STANAG magazines of the type used among the other weapons you listed. The Mini-14 utilizes a Ruger proprietary magazine design that functions similarly to the M14, of which it is essentially a scaled and rechambered clone.

Does that mean there are no Ruger Mini-14's out there that someone has modified to accept STANAG mags? No, but I've never heard of it, and Gun Jesus better get on that toot sweet so we can get Jim Sullivan's belly laugh on video before he dies.

Edit: Not miniaturized. Scaled.

You gotta be kidding me, the tags are community tags, the developers don't tag their own games.

And what do you mean by " stop acting like it's CoD or some unrealistic game " Why is this even brought up ? what does this has to do with anything ?
