If you are chatting with a friend, through steam text, click the little arrow next to their name, and click invite to game.
You can also join them in the same way.
"Send Message, View Steam profile, Block Comm, Invite to chat, Invite to group, Invite to trade, Join Game, View Game Info..." and some other options, don't have "Invite to Play" option.
Also, in game menu when I see list of friends I have only 4 options: "Send Message, View profile, Join Game and View Game Info".
Friends List / Chat options [drive.google.com]
Game menu Options [drive.google.com]
Those are all options I have. No matter if I do "alt+tab" or "shift+tab" to reach friends list.
- I can invite friends to a party, they do not see the invite
- Friends can Invite me
- While playing Insurgency, I am not in a game for my friends (only 'online')
..
2 work arounds. 1) get your friends to create the party and invite you, presumably they can invite you, or 2) Connect to a server and give your friends the IP so they can connect via console. The command is "connect ip.paddress.copied.here" A servers IP can be found ingame via entering the "status" command in the console.

- old games don't get maintained on linux
- new games don't get day one support, and probably will end up broken if they ever release on linux
Thank you, will try this workaround.
It's annoying though that they don't have time to fix their game, while they do have time to create new...
