Strategy for Cultural Buildings
Is there a best practice for placement of Cultural buildings? I tend to try to keep cultural buildings bunched together within their own faction i.e I build the Ceramics Workshop on one side of the city and then try to cluster all other Production Faction cultural buildings in that area. Is there any downside to mixing different faction cultural buildings together i.e putting the Arena in close proximity to the Agoge?

Do people generally aim to have cultural buildings of every faction within the city or just concentrate on a few?

hey dude, yeah i do exactly the same, i group them together whilst trying to form as many districts with matching culture "bubble" as possible. i have seen many cities on the Discord and here that do not do this and they seem to work fine but i believe it is better to have as many as you can as this helps massively with faction expansion both when they start requesting districts which give power and trust and how many they can expand to and so giving you more revenue with taxes. whilst there is no empirical data on this at the moment about why and how factions expand that i have seen, i have noticed that they tend towards Districts with same culture and high population.

in saying all this i have personally not explored the aspect of mixing factions much as i always found it logical to not mix them but the game does sometimes force you to mix them and randomly through ruins. in regards to forcing with up-gradable building for Military, Production, Education and Religion and later others that change culture when upgraded. This to me indicates that there is no harm in it as the devs encourage it in some ways and there should be nothing stopping you from building the way you want if you think it is thematic or aesthetic.

Before the recent Renaissance patch the game did heavily encourage you to explore as many factions as possible in order to get a higher score, with the new scoring system it gives the player more freedom in choice of strategies to "beat" the game which personally i do prefer, although the player is at the moment steered towards certain factions and Wanders are a really powerful game mechanic. If you look in the General channel of the Discord you can see a post on 18/01/25 by user Eoran(me) showcasing a "winning" city which as i say is defunct now and in the Videos-screenshots Chanel on the 01/02/25 showcasing an Endless mode city i built with both of these using the principles i have discussed.

I hope this gives you a bit of guidance, i would say at the moment build the city you want how you want, like in my endless mode screenshot i am constrained by my vision for the game where i did not want to place buildings that are not up gradable. Please give as much feedback on your experience to the devs as possible/ you want to, as this helps massively in evolving what i believe is an excellent city builder game.
