Critical error: Unable to create graphic device. Reason: ChangeMode failure
before starting up a message reads this ^ ..then says something about a runtime error: trying to close in an unusual way. the game then closes. way how do you sort this??? would really appreciate help

I literally copy and pasted this topic b/c it wasn't answered.
I have an ATI ALL IN WONDER X1800 XL graphics card, and I meet all the requirements for the game.

Any ideas other than verifying and/or re downloading?

So far, I've only seen two reasons creating this error - one is that you're below the minimum requirements (you said you're not though) ... second, the game's using the "wrong", the integrated graphic card instead of the dedicated one.

What is the rest of your system like? That's an old vga card...does it perform well in other new DX9+ games? I know that card can't render DX10 or 11, and this game runs DX11 for me (though I told it to). What OS are you on? If WIn 7/8 maybe it's trying to force DX11 mode? Have you tried XP SP2/3 compat mode if that's the case?

Crap i feel uneducated. I think you are right in that it is trying to force DX11. How do i stop that from happening?

it's under API in graphics options, did you manage to put it to DX9? Did the game run fine before? did you update all your drivers?
