2 keyboard strokes at once are ruining my midi record
Hi,

I wanted to record some sounds from a midi keyboard which is connected to the PC via an USB Midi Cable. But I stumbled across a problem. Every time I press 2 keys at once on the keyboard MC6T doesn't recognize that I stopped playing the keys. So for example if I play h and c at once for 2 seconds MC6T recognizes that I stopped playing h but c gets played on and on and on. So after I'm done the recording is completly broken.

Can I only play one key at the time while recording or is their any workaround for that problem.

What is h and c? So far as I know the note range is A-G.
What Soft Synth / Virtual instrument are you using?
What make/model is your MIDI Controller Keyboard?

Are you using the latest drivers for your device.

Try a different Soft Synth, for testing purposes, and see if the issue persists (by redoing, not by copying the MIDI track).

Background as I understand ... MIDI passes Note ON / Note OFF signals. Either it's not being sent from your keyboard or not being received by your Soft Synth. Either bug, capability or indeed configuration.

Well, just some notes I'm playing. You can also say A and G doesn't matter because the problem comes with every key that is in range of course.

I'm using the Orchestral Winds Brass Percussion.

Midi Controller LogiLink UA0037 USB Midi Cable
Keyboard Bontempi PM683

Some Virtual instruments are ok because they don't produce a continous sound while holding down a key for example the pianos. But if i take a look in the midi output in the piano roll view I can see that some notes are played for much to long too.

Some vst's are not multi timbral. In other words, they're not meant to be played with more than one note at a time. That's the case with a lot of orchestral ensemble plugs. Sounds like it might be that, in which case just don't play that particular plug with more than one note at a time.

OK - that's a Sound Center Expansion Pack huh?

Try doing it in say SI Electronic Piano and see if the note prolongs. (To see if it's a Sound Center issue).

Because what it sounds like from your last paragraph is that the MIDI off signal is not being detected and each sample note is being played back to the length of underlying sample file.

Should be able to play more than one note at one time. (else how would you play chords(?)).
[Update: OK some SoundPack Programs only play one 'note' at a time e.g Les Paul Power Chords. Not sure this has to do with multi-timbrality though(?)]

To my understanding ... 'multi-timbral' is about being able the play different (or the same) instruments on each of the 16 Midi channels via the one Virtual Instrument e.g, TTS-1. - (one track, many channels).

Sound Center (as the Virtual Instrument) is not multi-timbral - (one track, one channel).

I read some comments on amazon about my midi cable should've done that before. The LogiLink UA0037 USB Midi Cable isn't conform to midi as it should be it only sends key is on/off if you press two keys at once it's broken. So if anyone stumbles on the same problem as I did its most likely the midi controller.

Does anyone know of a midi controller cable which is good?

I would suggest getting an affordable (USB) audio interface instead. That will give you more flexibility, also for recording audio. There are a number of choices that offer microphone, line, and midi input in one box that aren't too expensive.

Bummer ...

The telling comments are:
"After running some tests using MIDI-OX, it appears that this device misses note-off MIDI commands if they are sent close to note-on commands".
"Sometimes after I play a note it never registers that they key has been lifted up again, and the note plays indefinitely".

Based on comments it looks like it may work with some devices (?)

My cable is simply Midi over USB (and ASIO drivers from the Controller manufacturer).
So can't help re cables.

At an outside chance you could try ASIO4ALL drivers(?).

[UPDATE] +1 @GhanBuriGhan re Audio Interface. (and it'd likely come with purpose built ASIO drivers).

Thanks to all of you especially ShellstaX, I decided to give it another try and bought a hopefully better cable. If that doesn't work as well i buy a Behringer UCA222 USB/Audio Interface.

If i understand correctly you have had a problem with hanging notes (missing note off commands). Last week i bought the same midi interface as you did and i've had the same problem with recording software (Cubase 7 Elements, i am not 'yet' certain if i will buy Music Creator 6). I sent the Logilink Inteface back and ordered the M-Audio USB UNO - Interface. I will get it on tuesday. Hope this will work better.

Good luck. Looks like more of the same based on Amazon reviews and M-Audio FAQ note:
"MIDISport UNO is Not Inputting Accurate MIDI Data to the Computer"
http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.faq
Probably same factory different badge.

Well only some of the serial numbers seem to have the problem. Hopefully you get a working one that is not affected by this issue ;-). Never thought it can be such a big problem to transfer data properly from a keyboard to a computer...^^

The M-Audio (Midisport) USB UNO - Interface that i have got today works perfectly with Cubase Elements 7 (Trial). No additional drivers were needed. My OS is Windows 8 64bit (not 8.1).

The Logilink didn't even notice midi out data from my Roland PK-5 bass pedal but the M-Audio does -as it should be.

Nice to hear that it finally works for you :)
If the other cabel I ordered is also not working I maybe buy it also.
Thanks for sharing :)
