"Out of Memory?"
Hi there.

I've been using this program. Can definetally say I'm enjoying learning how everything works and so forth great program :)

Anyway, onto the problem. So i chop some of my favorite bits of songs and export them (Personal use only) just to skip that 45 second intro and get tino the song (Mostly done for classic music lol). Whenever i try to import a song recently, it says "Out of memory". I don't know what caused this or anything. It isnt just the one song it's anything. I even tried to re-install and that didnt work.

I'm just wondering if anyone else faced this issue and how they fixed it? I know I'm a noob and it might be something simple lol. If any-one can relate or knows how to fix, please tell me :D

Thanks,
Marioeh

This used to be a common issue with sonar and mc, it happens with newer embeded ID3 tags/album pictures in mp3's. You'll want to either strip the image & meta tag or convert it to a wave first via another app, then import it into mc. Audacity can do this and you can integrate it as a wave editor in mc. There's a community guide from cakewalk about it. Seems to have been resolved in the latest version of sonar x3. :dealwithit:

Nevermind, i just figured out it's a 30 day we want more money (Trial) of the mp3 encoder. What - a - joke.

See Seth's (Cakewalk's) explanation (they have to pay royalties) and guide to setting up *free* LAME mp3 and Ogg Vorbis encoders here:

Even the Cakewalk store says:
Purchase of this product is not required to convert your files to MP3. This software integrated encoder is intended to improve file export workflow.

Alternatively you can save it as e.g. .wav and convert it to mp3 with any of a number of free audio converters (often bundled along with video players/converters).
e.g,
- VLC - http://www.videolan.org/
- MeGUI - http://sourceforge.net/projects/megui/

The reason we charge for the mp3 activator is that there is a royalty fee associated with us distributing mp3. Many of our customers upgrade between versions and instead of having them pay for it every time, we only charge them once with a separate optional download.

You can also export your project to Soundcloud which will generate an Mp3 for you. There you can share it. keep it private, or download it.

Alternatively, you can use the guide I created that lets you tie into the free LAME (short for 'LAME Ain't an Mp3 Encoder') encoder to create mp3's.

Thanks Seth. I think it bears reitterating that ...
Rather than a money grab, it's obviously been considered as the fairest way to recoup the licensing fee - with a one time optional fee rather than having to load the fee onto every software product.

All the info is over at http://mp3licensing.com/

Probable reasons that the free/open source products 'get away with' not licensing are:
a. Fraunhofer/Thomson choose not to enforce arguably non-commercial product.
b. They are taking a gamble.

Obviously, Cakewalk, as a commercial entity, can't take that risk.
