whats the best trackmania game for a beginner?

I only own Stadium. I looked at the most played Trackmania games on steamcharts and the F2P one is in first and Nations Forever is in a somewhat distant second. F2P scares me tho, I'm assuming Ubisoft is not generous with their pricing.

now is the best time for starting this game imo

the free campaign is fairly simple overall compared to previous ones

I played this game on the free year for like 2 years and was fine

as for pricing, $10~ for a year is quite good i'd say. you don't really need anything besides the standard access tier

This one, definitely. F2P has a lot of stuff,especially if you're just going to be playing the game from time to time. If you want to go all in though and play the game all the time, all it costs is 10$ a month to get access to everything that matters, and considering how much stuff the game keeps receiving on a regular basis the pricing is surprisingly generous when compared to every single other live service game out there that makes you pay twice that much for a fraction of new content.

Trackmania nation forever is also good f2p with a full campaign and online server you just have to spectate every 5 games. The paid version trackmania united forever has 5 or 6 campaigns from most of the previous games (like 300 tracks), playing online you don't have to spectate and you can play with custom models if you want to.

if you are looking for a game to dip your toes in to find out if you like Trackmania then you already own one - Stadium is fundamentally the same game, albeit with few surfaces

if you are already 'hooked', then ofc TM2020 is the choice - it pretty much encompasses all previous titles + more
