How to fix Ubisoft Connect crash on Steam Deck
If you're having a crash on the Steam Deck, you can follow this procedure:

Search for Proton Experimental in your library, select properties -> Betas -> Bleeding edge. Go to Trackmania -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Select Proton Experimental

You can do this to all the games that use Ubisoft Connect.

I have same problem probably. "Ubisoft Connect is not currently installed."

"Connection lost.
A Ubisoft service is currently unavailable. Please try later" for me :/

Edit : if you have the same problem, check this page for the solution :)

I'm getting the same issue of Ubisoft Connect not being installed. This is a brand new Steam Deck out of the box, so it's not like I've installed something that's causing an issue. When setting the game to use Proton Experimental it did install something the first time that I ran it, but the same error persists.

Edit - Got it working. The solution wasn't too fiddly in the end either. I've written the steps below and tried to keep them as basic as I could for those who (like me) are new to the Steam Deck, but the actual procedure is fairly simple.

  • Install the Steam version of Trackmania as normal. Attempting to run it shows the "Ubisoft Connect is not currently installed" error. Configure Trackmania as above to use "Proton Experimental". If you still get the error, continue.
  • Drop back to Desktop mode. If you're unfamiliar with Desktop mode you need to hold the power button until you see the power menu, and choose "Switch to Desktop". You can control the mouse with the right trackpad, left click with the right trigger and right click with the left trigger.
  • Use "Discover" to install "Protontricks". Click the shopping bag at the bottom of the screen, and type "Protontricks" into the search box in the top left. To get the keyboard to show you'll need to hold the "Steam" button and press "X". Click the "Install" button next to Protontricks.
  • Once installed, launch Protontricks. Use the bottom-left icon to bring up the list of installed programs, and you'll find it under "Utilities".
  • Choose Trackmania from the games listed.
  • Wait for what seems like an age. It's genuinely doing something, I promise. It may launch minimised, so click the icon that looks like a notepad that's appeared on the taskbar below if it does.
  • Choose "Install an application".
  • Select "Ubisoft Connect" from the list and install it. I used the default install location even though it's a Windows path, and it worked fine.
  • If you choose to launch Ubisoft Connect upon completing installation, you may have a nightmare getting the keyboard to work to enter your username and password. Use the "Return to Gaming Mode" icon to get back to normal Steam and launch Trackmania from there. I was able to get the keyboard to work through that without issue, but you will still need to use the steam button + X to get the keyboard to show.
  • Play the game, smash your Steam Deck in a fit of rage after messing up the perfect run during the last second, and then order a replacement.

Do note that for anyone doing this, it will change the Proton Experimental version being used by all games that use Experimental. So if another game breaks, check if it was using experimental, then either disable the beta or try a stable Proton version. As far as I'm aware there isn't a way to set the beta setting on a per game basis, but if there is, that'd be a better way to do this fix till it is in stable.

Edit -
So this so far has managed to fix the issue that would cause the game to hang until the Steamdeck restarted itself. But the game still crashes, which I'm assuming is what was causing the hang and restart issue before.

Edit 2-
Scratch that. It hung and forced a restart of the Steamdeck again. This time I had the performance HUD up though. It looks to me like there's just a memory leak somewhere. When first launched it's using about 1-2 GB, but when it hung it was using all the RAM three Steamdeck could allocate (over 14 GB).

I tryed to play this game, but Proton 8 allows me to start Ubisoft Connect, but the game does not start (actually, no game start with Proton 8), but when I use Proton 7, I'm quite sure the game could start, but Ubisoft Connect does not.
I don't know how to start Ubisoft Connect with Proton 8 and the game with Proton 7, or if that even possible, giving up.

I tried this, but no matter what I do I always get the "Ubisoft Connect is not currently installed" error.
I've tried Proton Experimental (with and without the beta), Proton 9.0-1 and Proton 8.0-5. What do I need to do to get this game to run?

An update to Ubisoft Connect just broke logging in for me. Pressing login just does nothing whatsoever whereas before it automatically logged me in when launched through Steam. Immediately before throwing me to the launch page it flashes a screen with a checkbox, presumably something like new ToS that need agreeing to, but there isn't enough time to interact. May be unrelated, but seems very coincidental if so.
