What is your favorite KoF game and why?

So, what is your favorite KoF game and why?

Mine is KoF Evolution for Dreamcast. Technicaly KoF '99 is my favorite, but Evolution is remake/update version. Although the combo physics are not as clean for some charaters as they for others, I still love the move sets & comboing capabilties for the roster in this game. I love the roster too. I use ALMOST everyone plenty. The graphics are great too. Though they are very pixely, I still love the art style. The new 3D stages have far more activity then any other game, which make them more fun to be in. The soundtrack to me is the OVERALL best in the series, and the arranged versions make it even better even though it doesn't play the whole song. This version is my favorite fighting game, and 2nd favorite video game of all time. My rating is a 9/10.

I'm going to say XI even though I have mixed feelings about the tag-in system. It has by far the best cast (if you don't count the MI games).

Atmosphere and design wise, KOF96'. It's just has a cool aura. KOFXI definitely has a cool cast (especially fromt the Kizuna and Buriki one games). Gameplay I guess its 98'.

Personally, I like the real bout games more.

I consider it the best fighting game to date
many characters, polished gameplay and moves, all characters are strong and competitive
unlimted fun
Played at every arcade in South East Asia, Japan and UAE

I'll take the heat and say it's XIII. I just like it because it's fun. The system mechanics and characters chosen for the game appeal to me.

I'm not that experienced with KOF, but I am finding XIII to be a bit more my style than '98UMFE, though I'll still play '98 over Street Fighter any day. Maybe I'll like 2K2UM more than XIII, who can say.

KOF 98 UM, KOF 2002 UM, KOF XI, KOF XIII, SNK vs Capcom II, all of them are great for me.

Best atmosphere: '96 and '97
Best music: 02UM

Also have an appreciation for '94, '95, '99, 2000, XIII, and MI2/RA.

I played since 1994, and mine is KOF 95, is like the chess of all KOFS, you have to be not combo wise but a very technical player to dominate the game, stages and music are the best so far IMO.
Next is KOF 98 UM, it have the best of the old classic fighting game style and some things from the new FG games.

This is hard for me. Most of my opinion of KoF comes from the roster and there's no game that's hit the perfect roster for me.

I guess I'll hafta give it to 2002UM for having the largest roster. There's no entry that has more of the characters I play than that one. However, I'm also partial to XI for having my 2nd favorite KoF character of all time, Momoko... and being the ONLY to have it, so that gives it major roster points for that alone, even if it lacks other characters. Plus it's a more fun game to play in my opinion.

So I guess roster goes to 2002UM with XI as the honorable mention and good competition.
Gameplay goes to XIII, being the most smooth/modern and generally fun to play, but XI gives that heavy competition as well
I also have a special place for 2006 (or perhaps MIRA for being the definitive version of it) in my heart for being a very nice game conceptially and looking amazing.

If SNK ever gave me a game that included the following characters all in it, it would probably be an instant favorite: Yuri, Momoko, Xiangfei, Bao, Athena, and Hotaru (Rock, Kensou, and Hokutamaru would also gain some points, but are less necessary)
