Getting used to the game
King of fighters was the first fighting game I have ever played. Though, to this day, I still have issues with it. Namely command inputs and combos. I keep playing it as I would street fighter, only with a little bigger freedom for combos. I would like some of you to give me a few tips.

Like... How to make the best use of max mode, easiest ways to combo/ perform supers, and also why is it so hard to perform MAX2 supers when their inputs are so easy. Also wanting to know if this game has any life online.

Basically typical combo strings consist of Normal->Command Normal->Special/Super. For example, Iori can do Strong Punch->Forward+Light Punch (1 hit)->QCB+P x3/QCF, HCB+P.

Max mode combos range from simple to difficult depending on the character. To activate in a combo, you press Light Kick+Strong Punch before the animation in your normal finishes, then proceed to go into normals->looped combo of specials before ending in a super.

Check out this playlist for combos for all the characters in the game. Parts 1-3 are for basic combos (there are some easy max mode combos) and 4-5 are for advanced combos.

I'll be checking those links, thank you very much for the tips! I forgot to ask: Do you recommend me to use a controller or is the keyboard fine?

I see. Guess I'll start practicing on my controller. Maybe I can have more chances against people online XD

He can't actually. f+A is not special cancelable in 2k2 like it is in 98 and 13.

If you are a beginner to fighting games or have just played them casually for a long time, this guide is very good for understanding how things work and how you have to think to win:

The book is written for Street Fighter 2 because every other game in the genre is based on it, and KOF 98/2002/13 all follow most of the rules in the book. The vibe is a bit different, though, so using this video as a companion to the shoryuken guide is recommended:

Yeah, I overlooked that and was trying to think of a common example. But the cancel into super still works.
