well, this 2002 Um already have online for play with nice characters and many variations of combo. On the other side the 98 will have online but not now but is great too. It depends on what type of kof you like. (But honestly the price of kof 98 and 2002um is realy cheep, you can buy both)

This one (KOF 2002 UM) has more characters, but also more system mechanics. KOF 98 UMFE has less system mechanics and 98 is the most iconic game in the series. If you want the biggest roster in the series, pick 2002 UM. If you want KOF at its fundamental core, play 98 UMFE. Both games will help you learn KOF though, so I guess it's just personal preference.

Now, 2002 UM got a rollback netcode update a while back. 98 UMFE as of right now has no rollback, but Code Mystics has been testing it out with public betas, and the rollback update is coming very soon.

It's not. It's just nostalgia getting in the way of reason. Not to say vanilla 98 is bad, of course. 98 UM compared to vanilla 98 has more characters, a new meter system called Ultimate Mode, balance adjustments, and more. This version is 98 Ultimate Match Final Edition, which is just more balance adjustments. Play this one if you wanna play 98.

He's obviously not cheating. It's a little thing called lag and rollback. That special move his Billy did at 0:30 has guard point, meaning it automatically blocks an attack. As for his Yuri, you just got outplayed. For his Nameless, you can't use Orochi Yashiro's command grab on a jumping opponent. He predicted that you would go for it, so he jumped out of the way, and your grab missed. He was able to hit you out of your crouching D at 3:10 because he used an invincible move. He was able to hit you out of your crouching D at 3:11 because his close C is faster than your crouching D, so it hit you before the active frames of your crouching D happened.

He's not cheating. You're just being a scrub, and you're playing with rollback lag.

I prefer 2002UM, there is more characters that I like and the stages and the soundtrack (best KOF OST) are awesome. For me it's the best KOF, but the next one (XV) looks very promising.

Both, man; there's a combo with both UM and XIII, all are worthy, but if I'd to choose one, 2002UM as it's closer to XV

If you also want to play on Fightcade with more players, 98UM is closer to the original 98 game. While 2002UM has significant changes compared to original 2002.

Play both but focus a little more on 98um because XV plays very similar to it. Just play both man they are awesome ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ games. They got rollback now and lobbies you'll have a great time in both.
