If you don't play DBD
Is this game even worth buying?

I imagine this is set in the DbD universe as a kind of "where it all began" kind of story that you really don't need to know anything about DbD to enjoy or get into. The story will essentially be self contained and not dependent on existing knowledge of the series - I'd say you would probably enjoy it more if you didn't know anything about dead by daylight due to the fact that won't know where the game will take you or to expect twists in the story(If there are some), so yes probably even more if you don't play DbD.

If you're at all curious about the kind of gameplay this will be you should pick up Supermassive's previous games on the cheap and try them out. The Quarry was pretty good in my opinion but there's also the four games they released under The Dark Pictures umbrella which are all good too except for the last one to come out(The one about a hotel - The devil in me). The Quarry was just on sale for under 20 bucks I think and I would hazard a guess that there'll be a sale on these titles leading up to the release of this game so keep an eye out.

If you have a Playstation 4 or 5 I think their first big hit is still available for free to download, that game being Until Dawn.

If you like any Supermassive or Telltale games, I'd say probably. Like The Quarry, or Dark Pictures etc. Hard to say since it isn't out yet, but it's intended to be a standalone game

As Symka said, this is a stand-alone game set in the world of Dead by Daylight. Those who have played DbD or know the lore will enjoy the easter eggs found throughout the game.

However, you don't need to have played Dead by Daylight, or dug into it's lore, to enjoy The Casting of Frank Stone :)

So then I wont appreciate the game since I wont understand the eastereggs, got it.

If you enjoy supermassive games I think you'll likely still enjoy the game

Well, the game is evidently made for DBD-players so I guess I will somewhat not enjoy it. Eastereggs are a great deal to me. If I can not understand or appriciate them, then perhaps it is not for me.

So you ask a question and then disregard the answers given to you ? Got it.

I'm glad this was asked and answered as someone who barely knows what Dead by Daylight is and doesn't do the multiplayer thing either.
Not so sure about OP's attitude after being given the answer though.. :steamfacepalm:

I'm more wondering why this isn't available to pre-order anywhere like GmG, which is where I've bought all my Dark Pictures/Quarry games until now though :/

This will be the first Supermassive game I won't own because it's tainted by BHVR. It's really sad and unfortunate that I won't get to experience this game because I am strongly against BHVR and their views as a former employee who was mistreated and forced to "respect cheaters because they're paying customers" for DBD.

You can learn more about the backstory with me, BHVR and why I'm avoiding this title in my highly upvoted review for DBD here: https://steamcommunity.com/id/thebeast/recommended/381210

What the heck is BHVR.

BHVR is Behaviour Interactive, the publishing company for this game and creators of Dead by Daylight, the universe that this game is centered around.

TBH, while Ive played DBD since 2018, I bought this game (pre-sale) due to The Dark Pictures games, (since this is a collab between those devs and BHVR).
I found it interesting only due to the dark pictures, not due to DBD.
So I am sure, you will find it interesting too even thoo you have never ever played dbd

i pre-ordered this game but i don't know about the universe from DBD, i just bought because it's a supermassive game xd

Will there be achievements?
