How to reset backpack appearance?

Started about a week ago, maybe I did something, maybe an update, backpacks no longer retain their original OEM look. I equip ninja, memento, acostas, hunter, etc. they all look the same except some of backpack elements are slightly different colors.

Again, as I scroll thru my inventory of backpacks they should update to the backpack style, all I'm getting are slight color changes to the same looking backpack.

After much digging looks like the AB outfit. But going into Apparel > Store > Apparel > Outfits > Necessary Tactics > AB Outfit - I can see everything checked off except backpack and vest. Worse there doesn't seem to be a way to unequip the whole outfit and even if I switch to another complete outfit like Umbrella corp operative the only thing that remains the same is that stupid backpack skin. What am I missing??
