Lots and I mean LOTS to do, Id even dare to say, pretty much endless replay value, depending on your tastes.
I havent completed the story yet, only 4 or 5 missions in.
Most of my time has been spent upgrading strongholds/map events and upgrading my agent. Dont see myself getting bored with it anytime soon, might be the same for you
Co-op is only needed for quickly passing and leveling up. In fact, you don’t even play, but run in the hope of killing at least someone 😂
I have spent the last 6 months trying to get a ninja bag to drop (which has left me wondering if I missed a patch note that says they removed it somewhere), for example, and not gotten one, even with active target farming when I'm not doing control points or seasonal stuffs. Multiple Mementos, a great many Acostas, no Ninjabag.
I'll also remark on the 'matchmaking only good at endgame' bit: That's true of the FORMAL matchmaking, but generally, if you put out a distress call, someone WILL show up. The reason people don't bother with matchmaking proper in lower difficulties outside of countdown and raids, is because they aren't challenging enough to give value to bringing more people in.
However! it's super easy to get into a clan or play with random people. You can either respond to incoming calls from other agents or do your call. To do your call you just need to hit Esc key, select the Social tab, and at the bottom of the UI it will say something like "Call Reinforces". Then you have to wait until some player gets into your game.
Once you have one player inside your game you can repeat the same process until filling it with 3 more players for a more challenging scenario.
Some people say that it's hard to find people playing in easier modes, which is relative. There is a lot of people doing daily/weekly tasks on lower levels just for getting the final prize of a serie of limited time tasks in the quickest possible way.
I don't suggest doing matchmacking as it didn't work very well for me, but you can gather other players as you play in the open world by sending reinforcement requests and then move with them to whatever option the game has. I haven't tried putting them into a matchmake, but to anything else and it works, so I guess it should workd also in Matchmaking. You already gatehered your 3 players, so you already have the team. Yet, some PvE game inside the game is more easy to find random people for matchmaking.
Yet you don't need to level up your character to get the whole benefits the game gives. If you join with people who as said at the very first paragraph, that's already leveled, you will level up very fast and probably get some exotic weapons, and I believe someone of level +40 can invite you to his world with its personal dificulty setup so therefore, you farm high-end gear which in part, it is allowed to be used by a low level player.
So it's a pretty damn funny game. Played more than 230 hours in UPlay, now I'm playing it on Steam, like about 60 hours or so.
