I fell for the bait and now I'm saying for the record, this is one pointless effing post/discussion. You should feel shame for this waste of time.

Nah this is good information. I saw this on the page and was confused, I don't follow this kind of crappy game very much and thought it was released already. Turns out I was right and they lied about the release date.

They did not lie about the release date. The game became available for sale on time as promised yesterday on the release date of January 12, 2023.

This is a straight up lie too. A quick google search shows release date is February 7, 2019. If this is a different game, they should have called it Division 3?

The Steam store release date is January 12, 2023. Go look at the release date for Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. Go look at the upcoming release date for Watch Dogs: Legion, which is January 26, 2023.

It's not even just limited to Ubisoft. Other publishers do this. Look at some other games who first had their game set as an Epic exclusive. Go look at the release date of March 13, 2020 for Borderlands 3 when it actually released on September 13, 2019.

you can keep your assumptions, as assumptions. don't pass them off as fact

It is fact tho? It's all public information.
It's hardly a fact. One easy search and you can find recent re-releases on Steam using recent dates. Sony's re-release of God of War wasn't Jan 14th 2022 or their Spiderman Remaster on Aug 12th of last year.

They can technically put whatever date they want to be honest. I know this because I've worked in the game business for 20+ years and have worked with these storefronts.

It's not a scam or some malicious conspiracy by the studio, then drawing a line from such an arbitrary detail to their investor call is just masterclass armchair quarterback material. It's cute that you're trying to be an expert, though.

Actually they are manipulating players into believing that this crashing piece of ♥♥♥♥ game is a new title of 2023...lol.
manipulating? is someone preventing you from checking information about this game? did they block access to google for you?

Are you convinced the majority of people are so clueless and uninformed that they would think The Division 2 was just released this year simply because of a release date posted on Steam?

If a game was a console exclusive for several years and then recently received a PC release, the stores selling it would post the PC release date. The game would be new to PC users.

Are you super intelligent people also going to criticize all the other many games that do this? Like the release of Guild Wars 2 to Steam?

Or does Ubisoft just live rent free in your head?

Oh so Steam released The Curse of Monkey Island on 31 Oct, 1997? Strange since Steam started on 12. September 2003 :lunar2019grinningpig:

You cite this one game as your evidence. It has also been said that it is the choice of the publisher in how they want to handle a release date. You're trying to compare how a game from 1997 was handled as opposed to a game from 2019. Obviously the release date of that specific game pre-dates the existence of Steam.

So a publisher can make up a release date and Steam is okay with that?
It was just an example I looked up in my library. You will find lots of games with wrong release dates. It seems random and sometimes convenient to me not to change it.
Impressive you know that 1997 is before 2003 :cozybethesda:

Wrong release date? That is the date that the game The Curse of Monkey Island was released. That particular publisher chose not to go by the Steam store release date and the actual release date of the game. It's an older title.

Oh okay debate lord so as a customer you have to look up which date is the actual release date and which game has the Steam release date? Oh and why would anybody care about the Steam release date after its on Steam? :steamfacepalm:

Well if you don't bring older games such as that into the debate, the reason why we have this discrepancy is largely in part to the Epic Games exclusivity causing release dates for Steam to not be an accurate representation of a game's actual release date.

You're going to see the same thing happen when SIFU eventually is assigned a Steam release date other than March. It will be March __ , 2023 even though the game released February 8, 2022.
