Oh so Steam released The Curse of Monkey Island on 31 Oct, 1997? Strange since Steam started on 12. September 2003 :lunar2019grinningpig:

It's a way to scam consumers by casually only entering the Steam Release.

Watch, in a few weeks it will be changed to the OG Date.

Ubisoft is in hot water with Sqeenix. They are doing what they can to make any money possible.

devs can set whatever release date they want in the steam api

some set it to the original release date, some set it to the steam release date

Interesting. Not shocking tho.

Ubisoft is doing whatever they can to trick consumers into buying their low-effort ports (Port from Ubi -> Steam) to generate any kind of cashflow after the past 2yrs of dwindling sales.

I'm part of the problem tho. I bought Anno 1800.

The date of January 12, 2023 reflects the Steam release, not the actual release date of the game itself. This game is already 4 years old.

them trying to "trick people" into buying their games is "public information"?

The only delusional one here is you, trying to justify why them purposely misleading consumers with release dates. They know full well what they are doing when they input the information. As breadman above pointed out.

Ubisoft is slowly crumbling, as was the case with THQ, Sqeenix, and a whole lot more.

Not to mention the latest investor call which I took a part in (listening obviously), the coming future is looking pretty bleak for them. How many games cancelled? Delays? all the money and manpower wasted. You can check it yourself now online.

It's even more prevalent in the Steam ports of all their games. Low quality efforts barely using any of the available API's Steam has on offer. Right now they are only looking for a quick cash crab from the Consumers.

Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I fell for the bait and now I'm saying for the record, this is one pointless effing post/discussion. You should feel shame for this waste of time.
