Exotic weapon crafting
I crafted a St. Elmo's Engine thinking I would have 2 but instead I have 1 that isn't as good as the one I had. Is that the way it is supposed to work?

'crafting' an exotic is really just re-rolling it's stats. And yeah, it's random and you could end up with something worse.

You can optimise an exotic if you have proficiency with it, so usually I re-roll them a couple of times to get pretty high stats and then finish them off with optimisation. You'll may need to grind for resources to do that, depending on what you have already collected in the game.

There is probably a youtube video out there that explains all that.

Thanks. So many details you have to learn for this game.

Yeah, and the terminology isn't always intuitive either. You do get used to it after a few hundred hours though :)

u can craft some specific exotics items in this game , for those items u have to gather resources and perform certain quests , which will give u the necessary items to craft it ...for example , the chatterbox exotic smg , nemesis sniper , regulus revolver, there is also a d50 and even there's a lot of gear items also which u need to craft ...

wht u did is called re-rolling / reconfigure .... when u get an exotic item , inya will have its Reconfigure blueprints ... u can buy them and reconfigure the weapon for best attributes ...

like for example , the best roll for st.elmos AR is Dmg to target out of cover in its attributes stats ..but if the one u got does not have that attribute then u can reconfigure it to get another random stat , and if u r lucky then u will get the one u want ..

Mostly all exotic weapons have fixed attributes , which can be optimised / re rolled for getting a chance of maxed out attributes. But some exotic weapons which r added recently in past few seasons have the option to have different attributes.

currently only few exotic guns have this different attributes feature , but in the upcoming event i think they will add this to all exotic weapons available.

if u r wondering what attributes im talking about exactly then , u see there's total 3 attributes of any weapon and then at the end there is the talent ,.. now the changeable attribute is the 3rd one only.

Somebody gave me the Liberty exotic D50. It dropped for them whilst we were running control points. Once a person does what it takes to get one of these weapons, it is then in their loot pool, and can drop from named bosses or exotic caches. If you are in their party when it happens, they can give it to you. I don't see the point of an exotic backup weapon at all because it prevents you from running a primary exotic which is going to be better exactly 100% of the time. I like experimenting with unusual builds just for the fun of it but even that is a step too far.

I knew about the Chatterbox and the Holster, because the game tells you about that. I open Hyena caches all the time but I've never managed to finish it. I have all the Holster parts except the blueprint just from running random control points with randos. Now apparently I'm supposed to go somewhere at a certain time and do a certain thing and I just really don't care at all for this kind of game-play in this kind of game.

The game does give you a very vague clue about the Nemesis. I was lucky enough to be in a squad that ran the Tidal Basin mission and they opened the door to get the piece you need to start it off. I just looked up on the internet what to do but it will take a 4 weeks to get all the parts. But at least it looks like a fun weapon so I'm happy to play that game.

I don't understand why damage to target out of cover is such a valued attribute in this game.

damage to target out of cover is multiplicative and is applied at the end of the total damage, so it is always there, whereas critical damage must first be triggered and the critical chance is capped at 60% per hit

Okay, that makes more sense, but what about the 'out of cover' bit. I know a lot of players do run and gun style, but I'm often shooting targets in cover. Maybe not as much as targets that are not in cover, so it's not really 'always there' as I understand it.

It applies to enemies that are out of cover. You yourself being in or out of cover doesn't affect that attribute.

Sure, sometimes enemies start taking cover a lot, especially if you have some lmg player in a group, but normally not the case, plus you can use crowd control skills/status effects or what not to pull them out.

I just take objection to the fact I've heard youtubers say that it applies all the time which is clearly not the case. It may apply all the time with certain play-styles or in a group where a lot of people play at melee range, but it does not apply 'all the time' with me.

But thanks for the clarification. Multiplicative after all other calculations explains why it is considered so good.

I guess watch different youtubers. Or don't at all.

maximum damage output is not relevant against enemies in cover, but rather against those who rush towards you…I have to think about the Recruiter showdown :)
