If you've reached WT4, then you can start using targeted loot areas to increase the chances of loot drops from particular brands and I'm almost certain there are DLC game modes that offer targeted loot as well.
If you want to maximise your chances, then take over as many control points as you can and keep them defended, as friendly areas allow for supply drops.
1. If you have the WoNY DLC, all gear below level 40, with the exception of exotics, will become obsolete as they cannot be upgraded. This means you should not worry about gear or builds until AFTER you have completed the DLC and reached level 40.
2. Targeted Loot. This is the game's built-in system to let you farm for specific gear pieces or type. Open the Map and press R. You will see a particular targeted loot for each region - it resets daily to a random type. Other game modes, like Countdown and Summit, let you choose a specific targeted loot, which makes them a good place to start farming.
