Do you need a Tank in this game?
so im kinda curious if going tank is viable or usefull. i reached lvl 40 yesterday and im currently SHD rank 5 so pretty early. 80% of the time from going 1-40 i ran with a shotgun into faces of the enemy and blastet them with the shield and it was kind of fun but also extremly easy. i know its normal/story difficulty. i dont know how the higher difficultys are or raids or the summit since i have non of the stuff done yet but it seems like having firepower to delete the enemies is better then going armor.

i would probably going fortifying bullwark or whatever its called with a shotgun and see from there. i also would probably be the tank in the group i play but usually i play 80% of the time solo.

so is it worth it? or should i just go firepower and delete the enemies before they can even spawn or react since the AI is pretty dumb at times especially the AI from the thougher armored ones.

First of all, the endgame isnt that much made for singleplayer experience.
second, after you have reached the endgame, you will increase the world difficulty step by step and you will recognize a significant increase of damage taken.
So if youre playing mostly solo, you should maintain a certain selfhealing level..with that you should be fine enough to take on many situations and events solo.

so a mix like 50/50 in armor/firepower for solo i guess? or you have some broken build with high stats or something that can solo everything but im not at that point. i guess i stick to beeing a tank for now and make different sets later.

This game is all about builds. And there is a build for pretty much any playstyle. You can be a tank/dps/healer all rolled into a build for solo play. Or you can focus on one (or more) areas for groups.

Most start with a Skill build[www.evernote.com] using a drone and turret for offense since it is the easiest to put together. You can use this build to easily farm for gear that you want for other builds.

When you have a build going, you will notice the enemies getting easier to take down. You can then bump up the difficulty. Since difficulty directly affects the quality of the loot, you'd want to set it to the highest that you're comfortable with.

Also, you will likely read about Countdown as a good place to farm for gear. It is, but please remember that you must NOT use the drone and turret skill build in Countdown. There are enemies in there called Hunters, who will hack your drone and turret, and use them against you and your teammates!

It's all about broken builds. Even at Heroic, let alone Legendary + directives, you'll easily do so much damage that your after action report will report a negative value for damage done.

i.e. it's not a million damage done, it's a BILLION damage done... and then some.

Mobs have hundreds of millions of HP (effective HP, they have the same HP as Normal mobs but the armor value is extremely high, i.e. expect to push an entire C-Mag into a mob's head and it won't go down). If you play in co-op, the effective HP scaling goes up too (so sometimes, it makes a lot of sense to do it, solo - look for 'anti-hunter' builds)

So you need DPS builds that can do 5-10mil DPS or more. You need tank builds that can take multi-million damage hits (and/or regen armor that fast). Not to mention builds that can revive your team, health, restore armor and so on. Builds that boost dmg done by your team by 20%~60%. Plus there's always hosts that like to put on directives that make the mini-map useless, give every other NPC 'special' ammo, start you off with just enough ammo for your pistol and so on.

Most of all... you need to know where the stinkiest cheeses are stored. Spots that let you exploit everything that's exploitable ^_^.

hmm good to know. sounds fun tbh at least for me. but before i can even do heroic stuff i need a good build because foundry bullwark lets me live but i do no damage. so yeah gotta grind stuff first lol

For heroic you basically need a min of 1.1mil armor to be viable there. I run a crit build with obliterate on the chest and clutch on the backpack (well perfect clutch). 3 pieces of Providence defense, 2 pieces belstone armory, and one piece ceskya (the hammer gear set). It's preferable if you get a devil's due backpack as that takes care of the ceskya piece and gives you perfect clutch. Run in sync on your choice of weapons and get as many crit hit chance and damage rolls as you can. Armor Regen rolls are a good back up. And then use mods to get to 60% crit hit chance and have some fun.
