When Stanley came to a set of two open doors, he entered the door on his left.

That would be weird to read I think.
You get used to it :). I used to have books that worked just that way when I was little. I loved them so much I started writing/drawing my own at some point, endlessly making little booklets with ever more pages ^^
This is like a computerized choose your own adventure. I'm not sure a book version is necessary, but I wouldn't say it was a bad thing.
You should go buy one, then! I reccommend the Lone Wolf series if you can manage to get your hands on a few of them.
