The Mystery of The Escape Pod
Why does it bug out when we try to get into it? Is there any possible way to activate it correctly? Where did the Narrator go? We must solve this mystery!

Alright guys, I'm gonna do a little update with all the findings I've found in the console that deal with the in-game files. Here it goes:
  • Now the very first sign of things getting bugging is when you juke out the door and it locks you out. You're given the message "[Sound] S_StartSound(): Failed to load sound 'narrator\boss_2.wav'. Can't create mixer." Meaning the narrator's sound file could not be played. This is when the narrator "leaves" you.
    [Sound] S_StartSound(): Failed to load sound 'narrator\boss_2.wav'. Can't create mixer.
  • You're given the message "CSceneEntity BC_1 unable to find actor named "narrator" when you walk into the broom closet, meaning that the narrator's speech really has been disabled. Same with the 417 hallway dialogue.
  • As we back track to the open door and spawn in the next map, we see that this map is named "redstair", and it is missing these files: cfg\cpu_level_1_pc.ekv, cfg\gpu_level_1_pc.ekv, cfg\mem_level_2_pc.ekv, and cfg\gpu_mem_level_1_pc.ekv
  • As you walk through the door on floor 760, you're given these error messages:
    "Late precache of World.CoopElevatorDoorOpen
    [Sound] S_StartSound(): Failed to load sound ')plats\mp_coop_elevator_door_open.wav'. Can't create mixer.
    Late precache of World.RobotHydraulicsOpen20f
    [Sound] S_StartSound(): Failed to load sound ')world\robot_parts\robot_hydraulics_open_pitched_20f_04.wav'. Can't create mixer."
    The sound files for the escape pod were not found, explaining why it is dead silent when it comes up.
  • Finally, as you go through the escape pod and start over, you're given the message "Using outdated reload syntax! FIX ME WILLIAM!!!" which is our biggest hint that this is all just a huge bug...
Just wanted to throw all of this out there for anyone to see. And if you're curious, you can easily spawn yourself into that area by going into the console and typing "map_commentary redstair"

I never got into Anodyne. I beat it, it was fun while it lasted but never got into post-game.

oh? I feel like half that games length was post game. so many secrets, like the stanley parable, or fez

Well guys, this was an awesome ride to go on with all of you. But I think we've speculated just about as much as we can about this game. It's been super fun, and thanks to everyone for participating in this thread!

I have found something NEW :D ok its probably an actual bug but who cares its intresting, What I have found is some doors, including all the doors between and including the far side of the matinence room, and the bosses office, can be blocked and, if clicked, REOPENED after being triggered to shut, where does this get us!?

absolutly nowhere, neither the right or left door of the initial choice can be reopened. and ifthe doors the bosses office dont close properly the escape pod ending does not open up, losing the narrator applies to all endings on the same map, but anything that triggers a loading screen brings back the narrator, this includes the Choice video.

As i said im fairly certain this is a bug "bug", as opposed to a "bug" bug but i still think it is intresting.

(apologies if this has been found already but i didnt see it or its various results when i looked through the thread, so im assuming its new)

This isn't even close to being over.

Everything released in the file extractor tool released yesterday has been already found. There is still something out there.

I tryed to get this ending but the office doors closed and i was still in the hallway but the other doors never opened. :C

Ok, so I have a theory...

The elevator room only opens after we've seen the escape pod shaft. I read on an imageboard that someone managed to get through both sets of doors and make the elevator work to get to the escape pod but it was still bugged (I think it was before an update) That got me thinking...

We're meant to see the elevator after the escape pod shaft. In the escape pod shaft, we see that in relation to the elevator... every floor is the same, (Through the windows in the shaft), so where people are saying the elevator is not working, maybe the gag is that it is actually taking you up and down story-wise, but every floor is the same... and like the corridors the elevators can go googly moogly to any elevator in the complex, but as according to game logic, traveling from the boss's office only ever lets you out on one of the infinite identical floors of the many playthroughs of the Stanley Parable...

This begs the question though, so maybe we can't use the elevator from the office, but maybe the buttons are able to send it somewhere, even across playthroughs, since this interpretation of the story would indicate that the lift potentially crosses the playthrough barrier. if you could escape another playthrough into the lift, having sent it elsewhere earlier, and come OUT of the lift, one could potentially bring the narrator to the escape pod ending in a logical way.

Originally I thought that it might be that you've got to go up to the 700+ floors explicitly to match the escape pod area, but it seems like far enough that you could discount ever getting there with the twisted narrative logic the game follows.

So here's the question... Where do we potentially send the lift using the buttons? Someplace far? It makes sense that the buttons could be a trigger... and that in that instance there would be no extra maps that were not already pre-existing to make something happen... Fits with the clue and the game logic, what do you guys think?

I really don't think that the elevator room opens because one does the escape pod ending. I think both it and the boss's bathroom just open on subsequent playthroughs.
